Video Ads

Yes, this. I exclusively visit DCUM on mobile and it’s now functionally impossible to do that because the video ads drain the battery so quickly. That just means I won’t be visiting the site.

Ugh I hate the new video ads.

Ha!!!

So, Jeff.. it's just a matter of the right ads.

Well.......it is Keanu

I recognize and respect the need for revenues but these adds often cover the content, move around and are are very “loud” visually, making it hard to read or enjoy anything. Sensory overload makes it hard to look at them and find out what they’re about, just that they are aversive and I don’t want to see them. I do avoid cabs, gas stations, and websites where unwanted video exposure is a part of the experience.

+1

I find them to be really disturbing.

The flashing lights are disturbing and could induce seizures in some other people though they just give me a headache and make it hard to read or enjoy anything

The video ads cover content, move about, and drain battery on portable devices. Further, if I stop the video playback to save battery, then it restarts with auto-play on the next page.

I don’t mind the embedded video you see but the pop up you have to repeatedly click to have it go away is absolutely awful.

I have no problem with display ads, header ads, etc. Just the unremovable video popup.

Is it possible to have the embedded video but not the popup?

I can't deal with these ads like this! So distracting I can't consintrate.

Yes, exactly. I'll try again in a day or two, but won't regularly be back with these ads.

+1 especially as someone who primarily reads DCUM on my phone

I think I preferred the dogs.

btw
I actually contribute to Wikipedia every year, FWIW

Just awful. You now get pop up video ads every time a new page loads. The site is unusable now.

I have found that Mozilla on incognito mode on mobile doesn’t have any ads tho….

I can live with Keanu Reeves popping up, absolutely. Having an ad between answers in a thread is easily ignored. But every time I click on a new page, to have that little box jump into the lower right side of my screen is HUGELY annoying. I have to actively click it away every single time, which is every single time I move to the next page of a thread, or the forum list, or a different thread.

And it is so annoying that I'm contemplating not visiting again.

needing to close an ad on every page is incredibly annoying.
