Middle-class people should be aware of this. If you blindly think that "Harvard" is such a prestigious name, so you will be all set spending a ton of money, that could be a big mistake.

CMU CS, NYU Stern, GT SFS etc. are more prestigious than useless majors at those school names that keep popping up.

If it's really prestigious, it will be highly valued in society, industries, and the real world.

Harvard English: $49,675
https://collegescorecard.ed.gov/school/?166027-Harvard-University&fos_code=2301&fos_credential=3

Northwestern Psychology: $61,389
https://collegescorecard.ed.gov/school/?147767-Northwestern-University&fos_code=0999&fos_credential=3

Does it look prestigious? They are simply not.
Now

CMU Elect Engineering: $$149,740
https://collegescorecard.ed.gov/school/?211440-Carnegie-Mellon-University&fos_code=1107&fos_credential=3

Northeastern CS: $132,227
https://collegescorecard.ed.gov/school/?167358-Northeastern-University

Boston College Finance: $110,242
https://collegescorecard.ed.gov/school/?164924-Boston-College&fos_code=5208&fos_credential=3

These seem more serious and prestigious.
If someone throws out some school names and tries to convince you that they are prestigious, it is likely a rich white person with an ALDC kid trying to scam you. Watch Out.

You are trying to apply the word prestigious in place of lucrative. They are two different things.

When the society, industry, real word treat it like dirt, it's not prestigious.
It's called a scam or fantasy at the best.

Sure, Harvard grads are treated like dirt. How about compare major to major?

Yes major is more important.
Middle class real people should know this and don't fall for the rich white scam.

I don’t know the answer to the question but in my long career I was most impressed by 3 people: one went to undergrad at Princeton, one went to undergrad at Duke, and one went to undergrad at UCLA. So I think you can do well from a variety of schools, it doesn’t just need to be a school like Princeton or Duke.

I would also add Oxford, Cambridge.

It's spelled with a "w" = Northwestern

Again school major combination is important.

I would say Northeastern CS/Engineering is more prestigious than Northwestern Communications, Psychology, Theater

Oh dear. This is so misinformed. There is no "combination" at Northeastern that would be "more prestigious" than Northwestern.

To many people, there is no difference.

It's not prestigious when it's treated like nothing much the moment you step out of the college.

People on this thread are scamming something not really valuable as 'prestigious'

What's more prestigious, being President of the US making $400k or being a Senior Associate in your 20s at a Private Equity firm making $400k?

Both are very valuable and prestigious.
I'll personally take the latter.

Agree. Although I wouldn't include Duke cause I hate the Blue Devils. Laettner sucks!

Cornell CS, Engineering, Business(Dyson) are very prestigious.
Hotel Management NO

all very good programs, and Cornell is a great school - but agree not the tippy top kids. Think T15 in US News is cutoff in my circle for prestige
