What a distorted view of the world and politics. I feel sorry for you. |
PP you are replying to; I am first Gen myself. I think the whole abortion debate is stupid (of course it should be pro choice like any civilized country). I also think all this trans and lgbtq nonsense is stupid (of course they should have rights like all of us but it shouldn’t be a constant celebration or forgetting biology altogether). I am not into politics because I think both sides have lost their minds. I will vote for Dems in the federal because I am a low earner, and I will support the most conservative candidate to be realistically elected at the local level because I am in the blue state and we should balance out the crazies with their progressive ideas but that’s too complicated to explain to a layperson so I just stick to the “I am not political” trope |
You shouldn’t. Her kids will play your kids like a fiddle when they grow up, with their head in the clouds tolerance worldview. Her kids will know things like they are and will advance without lalaland ideas |
PP, your post was very well-said and I agree 100%. The person calling you horrid, well, we probably know what kind of a life he/she leads. |
From your lips to God's ears. |
In short, if you meet an immigrant, by default they aren’t progressive/liberal. Some are but they will let you know about it
|
| Actually I think being progressive is a function of growing up privileged… all this extra energy that needs not to be spent on surviving is channeled into unrealistic ideas that are then imposed on others or used to lure them into the same lalaland. Immigrants are immune by definition because they had to struggle much more. |
Abortion is not a dumb idiotic issue. It is extremely important and it is going to drive election outcomes in the swing states as it already did in the midterms. Regardless of fundraising, regardless of rich or poor, it is a critical issue that will drive turnout and decide elections. |
My views are similar to pp's. I'm not an immigrant but I'm first generation, married to a foreign born person. I think people like you, with your "I feel sorry for you" are in for a rude awakening when you figure out you're being lied to. |
Are you from some country that treats to it's women like 2nd class citizens? Maybe you are used to that but the majority of voters here are pissed off about roe being overturned and intend to fight back to try to restore our daughter's rights. |
Right on!!! Thank you for sharing this. I appreciate your perspective. Ignore the trolls. You seem like a mature, reasonable, intelligent person doing the best for their kids that someone can have a civil conversation with. Can't say that for most of the natives posting here. |
| One wonders, if these immigrants so vehemently hate such things as protecting individual rights, regulating industry, taxing appropriately, trying to control gun violence, trying to provide adequate healthcare, recognizing that not every human is cast from the identical straight white christian mold and so on, if all of this is so intolerable to them then why are they even here in the first place? |
But that's just it- you and the immigrant above are the ones who have been lied to. That entire screed is based on cherrypicked 5 second FOX News soundbites as if it were actually a true and accurate reflection of America. I suggest you go out and actually talk to actual Americans, not from your own neighborhood, and not on some hyperpartisan message board like DCUM. The REAL America is NOTHING like what you and the PP are portraying. It is cynical and out-of touch. |
But this country is not pro choice. So the threat to women is very real and very not stupid. Recent immigrants may not realize how severely women's rights have been crushed by the backwards conservatives. They have taken rights away that were in place for 50 years. Don't be ignorant. |
Economic opportunity, obviously. The reason most people have immigrated for throughout history. That or to escape physical violence by criminals or governments or both. |
