Annoyed at Nanny Asking for Raise

It's fine. If you can't afford it then good luck finding another nanny

Her justification was, inflation and the fact she had been with us for one year. I would never ask my boss for more pay with that justification. Not even when I worked an hourly rate in retail would that request have gotten me more money. Is this just the way it is in the nanny world? Raises expected annually for no reason other than retention?

Just ask your pediatrician how much you’ll pay for therapy down the road for reckless, unstable care during early childhood. Continuity of care is ESSENTIAL. Sorry to be so blunt.

If it’s only occasional part time care, it doesn’t matter so much.

Sounds like that nanny will have responsibility for two children when the baby is older. Parents work out of the home and expect her to live-in during the summer in the Hamptons. Different job entirely.

Nannies that care for just 1 child are being offered $30-$35 in good neighborhoods; if parents can’t pay the nanny or give her a raise then consider Daycare.

BS we have a nanny in North Arlington that is 18/hour for 2 kids and pays taxes

Yeah that would be over $70k/yr for just 40 hours per week. I don’t know who would pay that much for 40 hours of childcare for one child. Sure, maybe a few people but that is absolutely not the norm.

If she’s good enough at providing childcare to warrant 28 an hour then do it. Remember there’s a cost in time and effort to switch to a new nanny. If she’s not, then politely tell her you can’t afford it and can reassess for next year.

It’s what $16 a day more… I think your kid is worth that if you like her.

We pay 30/hour for 2 plus $400 a month towards health insurance. Also in N Arlington. 18 seems criminal.

$18/hr in this area means you're hiring undocumented nanny.
