Now kids can't learn about school desegregation because it might make them feel badly that white people were in favor of school segregation

The person who got this movie removed works in development for a local YMCA, according to this article, and I can't imagine that they are feeling very happy about being so publicly associated with this type of - let's use this phrase, white fragility. |
Who used to be the party of new england and mid atlantic cities? Thanks to Nixon, the modern parties have flipped. Hearing anyone tout Lincoln as a great republican shows that they are either disingenuous or have the most surface level understanding of American history possible |
Half the R party believes in Christian nationalism . They aren't religious minorities you speak of. |
The thing is that I think the Rs who say things like that really believe that they can lie and twist and somehow we'll have to believe them and roll over to their Handmaids Tale version of life. I don't think they realize that we can see their lies, and we DON'T have to roll over for it just because they think they've given us a clever line. |
I mean, for a party that likes to huff on about people being too sensitive, they sure are concerned about making sure white people don't feel bad about the past. |
This is what decades of propaganda have gifted America with. Brainwashed numpties. |

The Statue of David was originally intended to be placed in a private alcove. However, when it was finished and unveiled, they decided it was such a fantastic work of art that it should instead be in a public square for all to see.
In short, Florida in 2023 is even more ignorant and backward than people were in 1504. |
|
Republicans are more outraged over an internationally recognized masterpiece of art than they are about children getting massacred in their schools.
It's completely sick and demented. |
They were merely believing what the media told them. I admit I fell for it myself, despite knowing how often the media gets stuff wrong, especially if it fits a certain narrative. It seemed plausible to me that something like this could happen. CNN's article had a quote from the school board that the principal was not fired because of David statue, yet they kept the headline. The principal told CNN that there were a lot of issues as well. |
What fake news? Fact: Unhinged right wing parents complained about their kids seeing the Statue of David. Fact: The principal was forced to resign. you: *mumble mumble* there were other issues *mumble handwave mumble* spin spin spin |
| I hadn’t heard about the desegregation movie. But it took me until I got to *graduate school* to really learn about desegregation and civil rights issues in this country. There is really no hope to learn from our past if we cannot learn about it! |
Do you live in Montgomery county? Are your kids in MCPS? ICYMI: MoCo is extremely liberal. Full stop. Think: Sanctuary City with a big and growing immigrant population. FTR: I’m a native and I happily chose to live here because of the county’s liberal politics and diverse community. Our growing immigrant population holds religious beliefs that skew conservative. They do not celebrate Halloween, and schools shifted gears out of respect for their beliefs. Similarly, these religious people are not warm and fuzzy when it comes to sex and lgbtq issues. As a result, the county schools do a lot of messaging and provide notice about such content. ICYMI: there’s a protest tomorrow in Montgomery county about taking back the schools or something that sounds very Florida-esque. I saw it on Nextdoor and really don’t have any details. I’m certainly not protesting, but I’m curious who will show up. I don’t think it will be a bunch of white people, but I could be wrong. |
Where did you grow up and go to school K thru 12? |
Which is why the GOP is slowly chiseling Civil Rights out of schools. Rosa Parks? Just decided to siddown on a bus one time. Why did they arrest her? Probably drunk and disorderly. Certainly nothing to do with segregation. |
DP I grew up in the midwest in the 70s and 80s and did not learn much about that era in school. |
