Florida school deems Michelangelo's David statute pornographic

Principal was told to resign or get fired for allowing the showing a picture of the statute of David. Apparently the class was classical art taught to middle schoolers. It's Tallahassee which is a blue section of the state.

Furthermore, this is at Tallahassee Classical School, a charter school that is designed to focus on a “content-rich classical education.”

I suspect there is more to this story. But, having been a Middle School student and having raised Middle School students, I would suggest that there are plenty of examples of Renaissance Art that could have been shared rather than this one. This would not have been my choice.

But, I suspect there is a lot more than just sharing this picture. (And, the David I saw was in a building--I think that is a replica in the picture?)

No need to ban the travel to Italy. Florida kids cant visit most museums in the US, for surely the best museums have art from the Renaissance period.

I was scrolling thorough one of those "these pictures are amazing" things in Facebook the other day. They had things like up-close photos of bugs, plants that look like ballerinas, and what cities looked like 100 years apart. That kind of thing. Then they showed pictures of women in Afghanistan and Iraq in the 1970s. Typically dressed women walking among the streets, in their mini-skirts and go-go boots.

This is their goal folks. It's happening, and you're stupidly voting these parasites into office over and over again because of your fears elsewhere. They're coming for YOU, make no mistake about it.

oh for gd's sake - you wouldn't let kids see DAVID?!

i really feel for kids being raised now. you're allowed no independence, your parents want to keep you locked in a closet so you don't accidentally witness some great art that also contemplates the human condition. no books, because those are too dangerous. the whole world having a panic attack that you're going to be ruined if you discover that gay people exist.

Is there something shameful about the human body that a simple non-provocative image of it is alarming for 11 and 12 year olds, who presumably have bodies of their own, to see?
