If you are a single mom, with 4 kids, netting $7K per month, chances are you have some subsidies.

I think you might be forgetting your ex-husband's substantial child support contribution. There's no way you're doing camps and multiple vacations and everything you need and want with FOUR kids. lmao

Survive with a monthly after tax income of $7,000 ? Sure--after welfare, food stamps, and subsidized rent kick in.

That’s about $90k pre-tax income. You seriously think someone making $90k qualifies for welfare?!

Not sure where you’re getting that math- 7k x 12 months is $84k so it would be way more than 90k pre tax but still not qualifying for welfare either way.

Of course it’s possible, even with kids, but is it fun? Would I enjoy it? No. I’ve lived on 8k after taxes with 2 kids. They had their activities and we had trips but I don’t enjoy that lifestyle at all. Had to say no to the kids too often.

My mortgage payment alone is $5600 so no.

Says the poster accusing PP of not factoring in their ex-spouse’s child support contribution? Ok!

We couldn't live our current lifestyle, but of course we could survive. We'd have to cut out travel sports and change the way we vacation. We'd also have to downsize our home and cancel various services like cleaning. And our current childcare would feel very expensive at that income.

Yes. We live on $8k/month post-tax and our mortgage is $950/month. We don’t live in the DMV anymore.
