Iowa test scores coming back

We haven't gotten my DD's score yet either, but she doesn't want to take Algebra next year. I am fairly confident that she didn't score high enough anyway. Interesting though that some schools are getting results significantly earlier than other schools.

We just got the score in the mail today (Woodson pyramid). As predicted, my DD scored below the 91st percentile, but actually scored higher than I expected -- 87th percentile.

Got ours today. Woodson pyramid. He’s very strong in math but I’m still surprised he got 99th percentile.

If they scored 91 percent or higher but is getting mostly 3’s in 7th grade math, they should take 7th Grade Honors because there may be gaps. I have students who scored well on IOWA but are not getting all 4’s on 7th grade content. I will say the majority of the kids who did do well, I expected to. There were a couple of surprises. If you are unsure, ask your child’s teacher what they think.

+1- I’m torn and my son is a little leery about having a middle school grade count for GPA. I tend to agree since he is just starting middle school next year. I also wonder if ALG 1 will gum up his scheduling and would prefer to get him into engineering 1 over algebra 1 but that would be putting an elective above math so I’m not sure how that would work. If the kids take alg 1 in 7th are there also 8th graders in the class?

I share your questions and concerns. My kid scored in 98th percentile and gets straight 4s in math, but his teacher is trying to steer him away from Alg I because of the pressure it involves.

There will be 8th graders in every elective, PE and Algebra 1. There is absolutely no harm in waiting a year to start. Be mindful that there is guarantee that your child will get into engineering. That decision is independent of what math they take.

DD came back with a letter saying she is at 91%
She has all 4 in her report card, math section

No prep

She is not into STEM or really interested in math
Want to be a doctor or fashion designer depending on the day.

So likely we will suggest her to not take Algebra 1 even if she makes it.
