You actually missed the 2nd most attended school after TR4 - 27 kids at SWS from the JO catchment. In total 134 kids at these walkable charter and citywide schools. More than the 127 who attend JOW. I'm not even including TRY and YY since those aren't walkable. Data below.

Two Rivers PCS - 4th Street 62
School-Within-School @ Goding 27
Capitol Hill Montessori School @ Logan 16
Ludlow-Taylor Elementary School 15
Mundo Verde Bilingual PCS - J.F. Cook 14

Agree with both of the last two comments. The city really set both LT and JOW up to fail with SWS & CHML plus charters. There’s just nothing remotely like that if you’re WOTP. LT’s rise is actually pretty incredible in that context and I hope JOW can get something similar going post-renovation.

Let’s be honest; both sws and CHML are absolutely terrible. I remember a time before the current principal when SWS was a desirable school, but the weak academics and lack of a strong middle school feeder pattern are definitely making it less attractive. This definitely explains the rise of ludlow. I know many parents who have left SWS for ludlow.

I actually agree with this, but wouldn't have 4 years ago when we were lotterying for PK. I wouldn't say they are "terrible" but the idea that they are better than LT, JOW, Payne, Tyler, Brent, Maury? Nope. I'd take those DCPS schools over SWS or CHML any day. I'd try for SWS or CHML if I was IB for Miner or Wheatley. I think Van Ness is a toss up.

There are people who are really committed to those learning approached but I think that population dwindles a lot after ECE. I know some folks who were IB for LT and Maury but took spots at SWS and CHML and I actually think it was a mistake, now that I have the benefit of several years and can see what they missed out on. DCPS is a lot better than its gets credit for, and parents of PK kids are poorly positioned to understand what DCPS does that these other schools do not because it won't become apparent until 2nd or 3rd grade.

NP, but there are a couple I’m aware of. 2 are very good students who wanted more academics & 1 is a younger sib.

I definitely know a few the other way as well. 1 was happy at LT but moved OOB and sib didn’t get in for PK. 1 looking for more sped support. 1 where 2 sibs transferred over & youngest started there; don’t know why, but previously involved family and nice kids.

Transfers aren’t that common though. Most LT IB kids at SWS never went to LT.

This is why I “love” this site. Your kid is in first grade, but you are an expert now.
