What did you notice the first time you came to the US.

Anonymous
The huge portions of food given in restaurants.
How race and socioeconomic status are much more closely associated in the US compared to other countries.
How it is clear that not all have equal access to quality education.
How much more emphasis is given on "getting ahead" rather than "getting along".
How hard it is to admit fault - whether from the little person or from the president of the US.
How quickly it is to whip out your gun or your lawyer whenever there's trouble.

What I'm saying is the US isn't the only place with Dark skinned black people. A friend from Latvia showed me a pic of her with her good friend, who just so happened to be a dark skinned black man. 4:13 I actually travel often. Plenty of African Americans( dark skinned too) have moved to the middle east in recent years. It's not all about the slave trade. When I say Asia I'm also including Saudi Arabia, U.A.E. etc.

My point is that if you are so surprised at the darkness of someones skin in this country you must not get out much. Dark people are all over the world.

You should get out more.

There are hardly any in some places in the US, too.

Exactly. I grew up in NH and I did not know one African American person until high school. That was also the first time I met someone Hispanic or Asian as well. Things are changing, but it is still shocking to my parents when they come down here from NH to see how diverse this area is.

Of course the US isn't the only place. If you're including Saudi Arabia and the UAE in Asia, you are using the broadest of geographical terms that few use, and only to backpedal from a point that was highlighting your ignorance. Clearly most think of that as the Middle East, and don't usually include it in Asia. There are many places in the world where blacks--people of African descent-- are extremely rare, and would be considered a curiosity---as would most Caucasians. But that's been said before.

Latvia is in Europe, which people already established as having blacks.... ....to nobody's surprise.

It doesn't matter that " most people" don't include Saudi in Asia, it is. There was some that many can name a backstreet boys song, but not a supreme court justice. There is nothing wrong with telling someone to get out more. That is not ignorance.
To the other PP, when growing up you never left NH?

I know Latvia is in Europe. I brought up Europe before the PP commented. My point was that they were all over.
The PP I originally responded to said nothing about being surprised at black people, but dark skinned black people.

To the other PP have you been to the carribean? There are many dark skinned people there too.

oh, and to the last PP I was responding too I realize that sounds snarky, sorry didn't intend to, to you. But in the Carribean black people are shaded in very light, to very dark.

Everyfood is junk here. I like the the educational system where you don't need to carry books and no need to wear a uniform. the most important thing is that everyone has a car.(India)

I don't eat junk food and don't have a car, and I'm a lifelong American. Just please realize that we do exist.

Oh please. Race and socioeconomic status are closely associated everywhere. Racism is in no way unique to Americans.
