Amazing?

The kids all did well and should be congratulated but most kids would have had the same outcome regardless of what high school they went to.

Siri, give me a sentence that makes me sound smart because no one will ever know whether it is true or not

Relax. It's a great school for bright privileged students but students went onto to get top level higher education before it existed and will do so after it is gone.

+1 Just check out the instagram pages for the strong MCPS and FCPS schools. Our MCPS school has had great ED results so far, including many unhooked kids. Kids who are academic super stars/athletic recruits/legacies, etc. will have good outcomes pretty much anywhere you put them as much as the Sidwell and other private school parents have convinced themselves otherwise.

Well by your logic those “unhooked” kids (every Harvard admit from Whitman in the last four years has been hooked) would have done just as fine if they had gone to the worst public school in Maryland. So why didn’t they save money on their house and move there?

Congrats to all, from these and other schools! There are others (most seniors I'm aware of) who haven't posted where they are going yet since they only post when final decision is made. This I'm guessing is true across schools, so hopefully even more students are happy to have their college search over!

So, striver parents pay for such schools, thinking it will give their kids a boost, assuming that when their kids get to that point, they will be good candidates for admission to top colleges.

You don't get a list of admissions with asterisks saying of X students admitted to Harvard, 3 were legacies, 2 were recruited for prep sports like squash and field hockey, 4 were the children of powerful people, 3 were the children of people you've never heard of but who can easily write a check for 7 figure donations, 3 were URMs who are on scholarship, etc.

What people choosing schools for their kids want to know is how many of the UMC white and Asian kids with 2 college educated parents who aren't legacies, celebrities, URMs, recruited athletes, potential donors, etc. get into top colleges from your school. And the truth is that statistic is almost impossible to discover.

+1. If you are not a VIP and college admission result is important to you, the above bolded text is what you should look into when you're deciding on private schools.

It would be pretty amazing if there were stats for the bolded!

Many of these successful students do as well at other schools because of their intrinsic talent and familial support. The meaning of that concept is not hard to understand even if you disagree.

I understand the theory. I don’t understand why you present it as fact when there is zero evidence to support it.

It always rings true and never seems forced - it always seems that the kids belong at the great schools they ultimately attend. Would be very hard pressed to find one one bad apple in the bunch, and many would be valedictorians at their public high schools. I believe that’s why the kids typically feel vindicated with the nonstop T15 admits - all the hard work is finally recognized! Good luck to all and a happy holiday season!

I’m a Sidwell parent and this sounds nothing like the high school my child attends . Gag

This is not a bragging forum; this is a discussion forum. We are discussing. If we had a forum to discuss this (and exchange information) within Sidwell, we would do so. If you are not a Sidwell parent, then go start your own thread to discuss your own school’s admission outcomes.

Ummmmm...did you read the title of the thread? If a student was asked to "give an example of bragging", that would be it.
