Those kids just need to be separated from my high achieving kid |
No, it isn't. You are conflating blame with the reality of majority low performing kids. Why there are 60% with 1s or 2s is not the issue. Does not change that it means high performing kids are in a crappy educational environment for them as against a school with mostly 4s and 5s. I'd also suggest that you show your stripes by characterizing BASIS as "pushing poorly performing kids out". BASIS has rigorous and unwavering standards. No one has to leave, but kids who can't pass the comprehensive exam repeat. You say that's pushing them out. I say that's setting a high standard and sticking to it. |
DP: Projecting, again. At least this is a very clear representation of DCUM for the person curious about moving to DC. If nothing else hopefully this will continue to discourage ppl from using DCUM for school advice |
I don't think "projecting" means what you think it means. In order for that to have been proper usage I would have had to be trying to make myself the victim. The kids are the victims here, not me. Please tell me you teach art or PE and not English! |
I think I’m good ending my conversation with you. Have some advil before bed and maybe even a little Gatorade or you’re gonna be in for a long morning ![]() Have a good holiday! |
OP, have you considered Falls Church or anywhere in VA? The schools and rent might be a better long term fit, and you can commute to DC |
the original op would be better off asking for advice on reddit |
Or a penal colony. |
No, quite useful information on this thread about what a disaster DCPS is and it’s culture of low expectation.
Exhibit A where the black mom thinks that her kid is doing great being on grade level at a school where being on grade level is being on top. That’s not how real life works with this bubble of being satisfied with low expectation. No one is going to give you a medal for being mediocre. |
LOL. She never said her son was doing great, she said he was doing BETTER and there was still work to do. |
Then that means her son was getting a 3 or lower when at the CH school. That’s below grade level. No wonder he struggled there. I could have told you that by just looking at the PARCC scores. See how that goes. |
And that may very well be true. Does it not change that she can be happy for progress now? Even after DCPS kept kids out of physical buildings for a 1.5? I get it, some people on this board have perfect children, who never struggle with anything, but everyone's kid isn't that way. Gasp - did I just admit that as a non-minority person? The horror. |
On this Thanksgiving, I’m grateful I didn’t grow up with people who think like you. |
You have completely missed the point. No one is saying she can’t be happy. The point is that standardized test scores are of value and reflected where the kids stand in regards to content and knowledge base and why her kid struggled. |
People are definitely saying she can't be happy because they said she has low expectations. |
