2023 6A boys lax outlook

Kudos to Oakton HS for putting on another fun Turkey Shootout this weekend. The weather certainly helped, too!

So much better than Fall Brawl, and not just because it was warmer. No traffic issues, better format, good competition. Madison still looks tough but there will be some teams that can push them this year. Battlefield, Robinson, Yorktown and Lake Braddock all had their moments yesterday.

Once again Lb's top 3 players were not in attendance and still only fell short to Madison by 2. Is Madison as good as everyone thinks?

Hard to assess teams when their players don't show (although I thought at least one of them was there for some of the games), but Madison is playing together as a team all the time and it shows. They move the ball well, went 5-0 and thumped Riverside 12-2, whereas Lake Braddock lost to Riverside. Madison beat Churchill and Battlefield easily (9-3) and Battlefield took down Yorktown and Robinson. Madison has to be the team to beat until someone proves otherwise.

Let's be honest: LB didn't have their top 3 but they brought in a lot of outside players of decent quality, including a D1 player.

Clarification: D1 commit

Are they taking on any private schools this year?

Schedules aren't out yet, but word on the street was that most of the big programs were doing the Spring Break tournament again. If you do that, it doesn't leave much room on the schedule for games against privates, except for pre-season scrimmages.

Madison girls went and played at St Ann's Belfield (the private school champs in Va) last year. We will see if they are the ones that wear the pants and play the big guns, or if the boys will put on the pants this year and do something similar and play a big time private given all the hype.

Real season, not play season....

They have a young team and this seems like a better use of time than goofing around at Fall Brawl. No other public schools were at the tournament and I give them props for pushing themselves against the best competition available in the fall.

Ah, sounds like someone has a chip on their shoulder. Any other public schools playing privates this spring?

Season schedules are shaping up!

Should be fun. Some interesting games against private schools from what I have seen so far.
