How much money is UMD going to get from the B1G conference?

Anonymous
UMD has 1.5 national championships in football since 1950 the modern age of football. When Michigan closes the gap with .5 more championships I’ll sit up and notice. Cramming in with 100000 people and spending massive resources for a non championship program of more than 70 years seems good for people with nothing better to do.

Holy Smokes that would be the end game. You can bet Florida would want in as well

This is actually interesting. Texas thinks of itself as better than the SEC culture. I would not be surprised at all if Texas has begun to put feelers out for a switch to the more lucrative and better academic reputation B1G. The only question is if the B1G is interested in crippling the SEC and all the responsibility of being so rich that it creates too much anger.

I bet this happens and when it does there will be screaming like you’ve never heard.

Even if Texas (and Oklahoma) switched allegiances to the B1G, I don’t think that cripples the SEC too much. They would have plenty of programs to choose from in order to remain the “other” Power 2 conference.

At some point the BiG and SEC are poised to break away from the NCAA. It seems inevitable.

I learned something here. I had no idea.

I actually feel kind of sorry for Michigan. Putting so much emphasis, expense, effort, hype, excitement, pretending players are students, faking college level classes….…. All to have fewer modern era football championships than “don’t care at all UMD” is borderline weird especially when you add in the arrogance. I never thought about it before but it’s not a good look.

Or Michigan fans. We like that we get a Michigan game locally every other year, but it’s sort of pathetic that the stadium ends up being 90% Michigan fans. They even played Mr. Brightside for us this past season, after Michigan beat Maryland 59-18.

Honestly, though, everyone just laughs at Maryland and Rutgers. No one considers them real Big Ten schools. The core of the Big Ten are the midwestern schools.

When it comes to the CA schools, everyone is just waiting for those CA kids to have to play their first slate of Big Ten conference play, during midwestern winters. Good luck playing Nebraska, Iowa, Michigan, OSU, Sparty, etc. in October and November, guys! Half those games will be away for them, and away will mean cold as all heck, and potentially a blizzard game or two thrown in there.

Hilariously UMD has as many football national championships as Michigan in the NCAA era. Only one less than Penn State. Maybe UMD is smart just to take the money and it’s alumni be distracted by more fruitful interests than packing in and watching non championship nonsense.

Stop trying to make UMD Football happen. It’s not going to happen.

What other “fruitful interests” does UMD invest in that Michigan doesn’t? I’ll wait.

Something other than wasting entire days watching teams that don’t win more than 1 national championship over 70 years like Michigan and Maryland. Maybe go to the Smithsonian or Go to the beach or Annapolis if you go to UMD or go drive around Detroit if you go to Michigan.

People actually turn on their televisions to see Michigan play. Michigan has a huge fan base even when they don’t win national championships. Many decades passed before the Cubs won a World Series, but people still tuned in to watch. Who cares about MD outside of the DMV?

Most people IN the DMV don’t care about UMD.

LOL. That’s so true! I was just trying to be nice.

It’s just that they care less about UVA and the WaPo features UMD above all other schools since it’s inside the beltway. UMD increased the payout to Big Ten schools by a huge amount …. That’s the only reason the Big Ten gave UMD the acc withdrawl fee and paid travel expenses which they have never done or ever will for any other institution.

A bit of Michigan envy I see. Face it. Michigan has a National reputation that won’t just go away because of your supposed pity. Who cares if you think it’s, “not a good look.” You’re a nobody, a nothing. The fans of Michigan, and there are millions of them, love their school and there’s nothing you can do about it. Michigan does not fake college level classes, unlike UNC. Some majors are easier than others, but they are all earned.

Television market share and fan following. That’s what drives the big bucks.

Most people in the DMV don’t care about any school. Just like LA. This area has a lot to do unlike Michigan or other really low priced, low iq expanse of blah.

Yep, lots of schools haven’t figured this out yet. There are only 5 schools at this point that could raise the payout each B1G school gets while keeping up with the academic side. Cal, Stanford ( Bay Area market), Florida and Texas, Notre Dame.

Nobody else will be added but those.
