I'm not trying to be cocky. I work with kids 5 days a week, who are germy, maskless, and get right in your face. I go to the gym several days a week, have traveled, eat indoors, am social, and still no covid. It's just my reality. I do however, have a hard reaction to the shots.

Would you get a 2nd booster if you're due?

As someone who is compromised and can't do all this-this sounds crazy to me. You either have amazing luck or an aamzing immune system or are one of the people who got covid and had no symptoms and never knew/and or could have passed it on to someone like me.

Them doing a booster will not help you as it is not stopping transmission. I’ve basically been home for the past two years as is my family and rarely seeing anyone. No one cares about anyone but themselves so you have to protect yourself. We live in a selfish society who is raising the next generation of selfish kids. My kid does one activity unmasked as they cannot mask and I suspect they brought it home but home test was negative. I was sick for over a month.

I agree with pp that you are the selfish one. If is extremely selfish of you to expect everyone to put their lives on hold or decrease their quality of life, because of your health issues. I'm sorry for your predicament, but it's entirely on you and your family.

I expect to be decent human beings and take basic precautions. If you were a decent person and could take even basic precautions to stop the spread, it would increase others quality of life. But, clearly we see who you are.

Very well said. It's worse is THEY don't know who they are yet. I expect a few life lessons might be headed their way eventually. I hope it will be pretty eye opening for them.

This is such a disturbing mindset. I work with a few folks who spend way too much time reading Twitter fear porn about covid, and they're obsessed with avoiding it. You can see them just hoping something bad happens to everyone around them who catches covid...yet it never does.

Agreed. The PP has no business lecturing others on what "decent human beings" do if this is her mindset.

Both of you have misunderstood this thread. They were speaking with regards to having medical issues and being high risk not on not wearing masks and wishing they caught covid. Selfishness works for some right now but that might not be the case forever.

Um, no, I think it's you who misunderstands it. This thread is about healthy people not taking precautions and whether they should get a second booster. The posters above were scolding those healthy people for not taking precautions as they believe doing so would "stop the spread" and protect those with health issues. The second of those posters was wishing "eye opening life lessons" on healthy people as punishment for their "selfish" behavior.

OP here.

No, you and pp judging others for living their lives normally are completely misunderstood this thread. You are free to do what you want to protect yourself. I support you.

If I'm not covid+, there's no reason I can't live my life totally normally going about working and doing things maskless. And yes, masks are a huge, huge hindrance for many - especially in schools. You have no idea, because you obviously don't work in schools.

Anyway, thanks all for the replies from those who stayed on point. I feel like the advice constantly changes, so despite being 6 months from my booster, I'll follow what many are doing and wait until what recommendations (or requirements) come in the Fall.

I wouldn't have done it in the first weeks of availability since I'm not as high risk as some but now that supply won't be a problem for those who need it, it seems reasonable to get it. With summer travel and activities, seems smart to get the extra protection now.

At my recent annual check-up, my Dr suggested I lie & go get a booster. (I’m 43 & healthy.) I didn’t bring it up, but their reasoning was that I might as well since it’s approved & I haven’t yet (to my knowledge) had it.
I have not decided either way.

Just another anecdote to add to the pile, but I am a very healthy and fit 40 year old and was very, very sick with COVID last week. My brother in CO had it the same week and had to go to the hospital. I’m very glad we were up to date on vaccines.

Yikes. You both had the initial 2-dose regimen, were boosted, are in your 40s and very healthy, and both suffered severe illness and/or hospitalization? Did you have a noticeable immune response to the vaccines?

I am so sorry. This is exceedingly unusual, which I do not say to minimize your illness but to sympathize that it must have been scary and unexpected. I have known no one in the past six months who was seriously ill (beyond flu-like symptoms) or hospitalized, including various friends and family members who are obese, over the age of 60, and/or never received a booster (most people I know) or were never vaccinated at all (a handful).

Never even got my first dose of any of them and don’t intend to. Too many red flags and no proof yet that they prevent transmission so I’ll pass.

You're hopelessly naive. The world you're hoping for isn't coming back, masks or no masks.

Because people like you have accepted this utter selfishness as the new normal, that's why, people like you.

It IS the new normal. Masking is currently niche. Either you can adapt to that or you can’t.

WHO is asking you to put your life on hold? Putting a mask on to go to a store is very little to ask for your fellow HUMAN BEINGS that a burden and stressed with LIFE LONG DISEASE AND ILLNESSES this is the LEAST YOU could do to help others. YOU are a very discusting and selfish person if you think your life is worth more because you are born blessed healthy than those who are not. Pray to God you never get ill and know what it is to live on this side of the fence for even a slip second.

NP. You are vastly overestimating how much others wearing a mask at the store does to protect you. It's really not worth fighting about. Masks are a small burden, but they are still a burden, and most people don't want to wear them indefinitely. Just put on your N95 when you go out and stop trying to shame people into permanently adopting a novel behavior that really doesn't do anything to make you safer.

You poor baby. It’s so haaaaard!

Just anecdotally, the people who have been living in a bubble the past 2 years with no germ exposure seem to be getting it the worst when they finally do.

It’s harder than not wearing one. I had to wear a mask a couple times since the VA mandate was lifted last May, and it certainly made me appreciate that it’s not a regular thing.
