Yikes. You both had the initial 2-dose regimen, were boosted, are in your 40s and very healthy, and both suffered severe illness and/or hospitalization? Did you have a noticeable immune response to the vaccines?

I am so sorry. This is exceedingly unusual, which I do not say to minimize your illness but to sympathize that it must have been scary and unexpected. I have known no one in the past six months who was seriously ill (beyond flu-like symptoms) or hospitalized, including various friends and family members who are obese, over the age of 60, and/or never received a booster (most people I know) or were never vaccinated at all (a handful).[/quote]
