This was well-presented and at times riveting.

Sadly, I don't think it's going to influence public opinion much. The left will continue to believe that there was a coup, the right will continue to believe that it was not big deal, and the mid-terms will be decided on inflation, notably gas prices.

+1 to all points

Of whom? What charge?

Just because something is awful and outrageous doesn't mean it's criminal.

Seriously where have you people been for a year and a half? More than 850 people have been charged by DOJ for their actions related to January 6.

Don’t Care!!

This is all so flipping tedious. Just an immense waste of time. Trump is an idiot, and a bigot, and 100 other things. I don’t give a sh$t anymore. He’s gone. He’s irrelevant and an embarrassment to all his sycophants now trying to distance themselves.

At the same time, this was not an “insurrection”. It was a protest by a bunch of idiot rednecks, really people who would deserve pity and empathy if they weren’t so obnoxious.

But you can’t have an insurrection with no guns, no bombs, no plan to overthrow the government, and no intent to seize power and rule. That didn’t exist. It was a bunch of dumbass theatre and I’m tired of otherwise reasonable and smart people pretending that the American Government was on the brink of collapsing. Such a bunch of hysterics. Get over yourselves.

There were guns and bombs. This thread is for people watching. You seem a little desperate.

If anyone is interested, this NYT documentary combined many sources along a time line and shows the terrorists attacked the Capitol from many sides, not just the two I had been thinking. Guns spotted among the crowd. Many shots of how large the insurrection was. It's 40 minutes long but stunning. https://www.nytimes.com/2021/06/30/us/jan-6-capitol-attack-takeaways.html

We mean putting Trump in jail.

So Trump never called in the National Guard. Mike Pence did.

Many are.

Like no joke. They really are unstable and many are deranged.

Nope just loyal to someone who is unstable and deranged.

Did you not know that before. It's part of the Stewart Rhodes indictment. A group was waiting at the Comfort Inn in Arlington. He purchased $10k worth of weapons himself in the two weeks leading up to 1-6-21. On social media he put out a call for patriots with small boats to come to Arlington.

The Proud Boys and Oath Keepers marched to the Capitol long before Trump finished speaking. To breech the outer fences. Watch the 40 minute video. It seems like an extension of tonight's video.

That was obvious a long time ago but it was good to hear it said.

Shout out to the other side. Our entire democracy held together by a thread by Mike Pence. Liz Cheney is a total boss.

I hope they explain the weeks of planning at very high levels which including replacing people everywhere and ensuring our great Capitol was left massively unprotected to their planned coup.

Liz can own this lib. I admire her so much.

We live in Ballston. Kids watching and they were very concerned. They saw cops racing on 1/6 but not sure they new our neighborhood was a holding ground for munitions. now they do.

PP you replied to. I think most of us would have stood by, doing nothing. The wealthiest and most daring among us would have escaped from Germany. This is what Russians are doing right now. This is what most humans are programmed to do.

And I still don’t understand who deliberately underarmed the Capitol Police that day.

The GOP as a whole didn’t attempt it.

But a handful of very powerful people did.

And now 99% of the GOP defends it.

You can’t tell me that the GOP as a whole didn’t know what was going on and from November 3 forward did nothing to stop it, and, as you say 99% of them defend it now. The GOP attempted a coup.

Who is defending it? Show me your math for 99%

No, you name a Republican who says this was an attempted coup, which it was, without saying the words “Liz” or “Adam”.

If America does not fall, I am sure of one thing. The elected republicans who tried to pretend this wasn’t serious will have to live with their cowardice forever. They chose wrong. And it will haunt them in the years to come. Really disturbed by Elise Stefanik. Honestly thought she was better than this.

Drama much? If America does not fall?

Y’all are driving it into the ground!

I was not involved in a violent attempt to overthrow my govt. I am not the one “driving it into the ground”.

You must be white. I'm glad you have the privilege to gloss over what happened on January 6th and remain an ignorant fool.

Yes, this needs to be underlined.

I probably disagree with Cheney and Pence on every policy point, but in this most important moment, they've turned out to be stalwart defenders of our most basic democratic rights.

This is democracy in action right there. Respect.
