It’s true. Senior paper came out last week and verified it.

My kid is at Langley and never got the paper. Was it available only to seniors?

Yes. It’s called the Senior Scope bc it’s only for the seniors

A good friend’s Langley ‘22 grad who is headed to an Ivy - mom told me if she could do it over, she’d she them to private for HS - Potomac or a top DC school. While her kid did fine at Langley obviously, she thinks the experience peers had at private school was much better across the board - academics, athletics, arts, socially. I didn’t drill down more other than to say I think Langley is a great HS and while she agreed it is good she thinks the top privates are better for overall HS experience and college prep.

And I had exactly the opposite experience. A good friend's Big 3 private '22 grad confided that if she had to do it all over again, she would have sent their DC to Langley (where they're zoned). She is well-aware that her DC would have gotten the same excellent education at Langley and college outcome that they did at the top private.

An incredibly talented pool of students are heading to other colleges.

The bolded is actually not true. Several students headed to Ivies who are neither URM nor sports recruits.

They are all/mostly legacies.

No, they're not. They are top students. Period.

Funny, we sent our kids to another FCPS public when we could have afforded privates and don’t regret the decision at all. Maybe it’s a Langley thing to feel apologetic about not spending even more of your money on status-signaling items like a Potomac education.

DP. What a defensive response. That was one anecdote - possibly not even true - from one person. I've had three kids go to Langley and have never felt their education and experience would have been better at a $50,000 school. I feel incredibly fortunate that my kids were able to attend Langley.

I’m also a Langley parent with a grad heading to an ivy this year and I disagree. Langley is amazing and if your child doesn’t need any special learning requirements, like smaller classrooms, etc, don’t pay for private. For those who feel privates are always better, I disagree. We could easily afford private but chose Langley and are very happy we did.

+100
But I will add that the classes for kids with learning differences are excellent at Langley. I have a friend who said the attention her son received at Langley compared to the private he used to go to was like night and day.

+1. I am a Langley parent, but my child is not going to an Ivy (so I’m not sure if my comment is relevant), but my kids are very well-prepared for college. For certain extracurriculars, you will get a better experience at a public school (Langley or otherwise). My kids do/did chorus and Langley chorus is much stronger than the private school choruses.

+2
And of course your comment is relevant, regardless of where your child is going to college! Agree about all the extracurriculars at Langley. It's a special place.

Don't worry about the PPs. Trolls gonna troll. Yes, there are 5 going to Yale and only one is an athletic recruit.

It’s true. Senior paper came out last week and verified it.

I don’t understand this. Also, Langley and other FCPS high schools do not publish school profiles that include college matriculations. While I understand that individual students may want their privacy, I don’t understand why a public high school cannot publish where their graduates typically attend college. Private schools routinely publish such information.

It’s politics. FCPS is on a DEI sprint and it doesn’t look good to show major differences in college matriculations from various county high schools. As for the school paper and individual students, revealing college matriculations has become more contentious over the past few years as many students are not pleased with their results.

They can be both. Mostly legacy.
