I don't think most of them are actually tied to a major. That's just what they applied as. I know at many schools you can't even officially declare a major until end of sophomore year.

WTF are you talking about? My pre-med has been taking college level courses since sophomore year. All sorts of subjects.

DP: AP/IB/DE Community College classes aren't really college equivalents.

Very few schools "tie" students to the major in their application? Even specialty schools for engineering and business have flexibility and often allow you to transfer out to the arts & sciences school if unhappy.
