Spoiled teens who end and ruin lives - parents, please keep your kids grounded

Lord. The ignorance on here. There is an epidemic of speeding like this by teen boys right now thanks to social media. They fold the speedometer while they drive at crazy speeds, then post. OP, you have a bias toward wealthy people which is why this is highlighted to you. Talk to the local police…they grab at least 3-4 you men driving like this pet weekend night. They get a ticket, and are sent on their way for their court date. I’m surprised this kid was even under house arrest. That often doesn’t happen. This is a serious issue/trend that transcends economic status. Get your head out if your butt.

Here’s the difference: the teens who come from wealthy families will get off scot-free.

There is a wealthy woman in my community (not DMV) who killed two children drinking and driving. Her disgusting lawyers are using every trick in the book…it’s reprehensible what money can buy.

So, she hasn't gotten of scot free yet has she?

The man in Leesburg who killed a baby in his stroller (and seriously injured his mom) in a lit crosswalk was given 1 year of weekend jail. He was allowed to go to his job during the week.

The same thing happened at Wootton HS not to long ago, we don't need to go to FLA to find a situation like this.

Speeding absolutely has to do with money. Do you think this was the very first time he sped and was "caught"? I'm sure they've paid of dozens of speeding tickets, either from cameras or police pulling him over. If you have money paying a ticket isn't a big deal. If you have your teens pay for their own tickets, they learn to self regulate a bit faster. Especially if you take the car away after tickets.

No it doesn’t. I live in a high percentage low income school district/city. Every year there are multiple local news reports of teens (with no seat belts) speeding recklessly at super high speeds and crashing, killing some or all of the occupants. The differences are they often don’t have a drivers license at all, don’t pay the tickets, it isn’t their car, they are fleeing police. But yeah…poor kids speed too and often.

Just this week in RVA:

https://www.wric.com/news/local-news/henrico-county/he-was-a-loving-sweet-kind-young-man-hermitage-high-school-student-killed-in-henrico-crash-identified/

"According to police, a vehicle occupied by three 14-year-old boys was traveling at high speed when the [14-yr old] driver lost control and went onto the sidewalk, hitting [and killing] two dogs that were being walked by their owner."

That HS serves a LC/MC area (50%+ FARMS) typical of the neighborhood (right across the street from the HS) where the accident occurred, so no, money doesn't necessarily correlate to speeding and/or reckless behavior.

this article has no validity, it a biased opinion and not based in fact. How do you know if the Galles are very caring and concerned parents, and sometimes kids do things we would never expect. Driving reckless is something i
I think any parent would have a problem with Just saying the parents are hurting here too and it’s awful for the victim families … no winners here and to lump this at the parents feet because they are rich isn’t fair

i don’t think it has anything to do with it… the only reason it’s an issue is their is more to sue for… it’s a teen age thing …where did you read he had prior speeding tickets and his parents knew … sounds like your making things up

I have some sympathy for the kid. I wish the parents would get jail time. They are culpable.
