Maryland doing it in the transfer portal and with the 6th year seniors and grad transfers. College athletics at its finest.

It’s sad to be such a hater for a group that lost a whole season due to COVID and accomplished what they have to become one of the best college teams of all time.

Cornell lost 2 seasons due to COVID. Teat and others could have been on their team if they played by MD’s rules.

Can you say “sixth year senior” unironically?

Didn’t a bunch of Cornell kids take a deferred year. I don’t blame them but aren’t they essentially the same age?

What happens in Utah stays in Utah?

DeMaio is 25, in his 6th year. No one playing at Cornell that age. Teat just turned 25 last month.

As a friend told me today when discussing how old some of these guys are “in any major sport, a 25 year old is a 3 or 4 year vet in the pro’s”. Not so n lacrosse…holdback, redshirt, Covid and there you have it.

It’s an absolute truism that somone who doesn’t go to college or leaves college early to turn pro would have years of experience over someone who graduated from college.

I think the point is in the major sports, the elite players turn pro as early as possible. In lacrosse, Rene elite players have no where to go re pro (PLL is a part time gig), so they stay in school as long as possible to keep playing.

Would Cornell have won would there also be an asterisk? They have 2 grad students and 5 5th years on their roster.

No 6th year "seniors" such as DeMaio (he's not listed as a grad student). No grad transfers like Donville '21. Not nearly comparable. How many 25 year olds does Maryland have on their team?

He had a redshirt year and then a year of eligibility reinstated due to COVID. Not sure what the mystery is here.

Cornell and every other school have their share of redshirt seniors and grad transfers. This is nothing new, nor is it somehow untoward like you are trying to make it out.

You just irrationally hate Maryland Terp Lacrosse. No need to create specious arguments and effectively defame people over it.

You do not know what you are talking about. There can never be a grad transfer to play at Cornell or any other Ivy League school. Nor, aside from 2022 because of a one-time COVID exception made by the Ivy League, can there be a redshirt senior at Cornell or any other Ivy school. You cannot compete in intercollegiate athletics at Ivy League schools after you graduate, even if you have not exhausted your athletic eligibility.

Why would you interpret what I am saying as defamatory, unless you believe that the age of Maryland's players is something to be embarrassed about? I'm just stating facts. How many 25 year olds were there on the Maryland roster?

That “one time” exemption is going to be around for years. The Yale roster is stacked with 4th year Juniors and 5th year Seniors. They just don’t identify them so easily.

I have no idea why you think taking anonymous shots at college kids who you think are somehow cheating is a useful use of your time.

No, this is also incorrect. The Ivy League only allowed class of '21 students to play an additional year after graduating (assuming they had athletic eligibility left). The rule will be back in force that you cannot compete athletically after four years of enrollment. So any 4th year junior you might see on the Yale roster would have had to take a leave of absence from school during 20-21, which some did.

Why do you persist in asserting that I'm taking shots at kids and suggesting that they are cheating? Do you think Maryland has something to be embarrassed about in enrolling grad transfers and allowing 6th year seniors to play at 25 and take playing time away from younger college athletes? Why are you so defensive about it if it's allowed? Do you think it is a useful use of your time to make things up about what others are saying?

Your problem here is that you don’t credit a UMD’s players lost lost year due to COVID (“6th year senior”?) but you somehow think “taking a year of absence” is functionally different.

Your complaint was age. Now it’s something else and just generally a bunch of shifting excuses to attack players that play for a team that you seem to have a very specific hard on for hating on. But you do you.

How many 24 and 25 year olds did Maryland have on their roster? It’s a simple question.

Two things will make this age thing go away (Rutgers had a few 25 year old's too).
1. Covid eligibility will run it's course
2. Transfers no longer have to sit out a year before playing

There will always be 19 year old Freshman, but the other stuff will end soon enough. It's not college hockey where it is built into the path to get to college.

I think a lot of UMD players stayed because of only losing the championship by one goal in an undefeated season. I think they couldn’t quit till they avenged that. I think it still stings and eligible guys will stay next year to win twice. They will be ranked #1 to start the season with the heart of the defense, goalie and face off guy back plus a full midfield and attack of seasoned players back. Long stick midfield returns with 2 rehabbed solid ssm back and a transfer. The question will be 2nd midfield and how the ssm gels.

Good thing Tillman brought in Donville and Khan as grad transfers to help them get over the hump.

UMD played against Khan and loved his equal with both hands skill. Donville approached Tillman. Pribylski was a great addition too and much needed down the stretch

The vast majority of the team is developed by Tillman but these days you need to add a couple proven pieces to win it all.

You're acting like they are double holdbacks playing in HoCo. Everyone is as big as they're going to be when they're in college, they're not going to get bigger in grad school. They're not even going to get that much better from playing a few more years after senior year.

The crucial player in the game - the Maryland goalie - was a junior, not a 25 year old.

If he showed up at a HOCO league game no one would question it.

Not sure how someone is “acting” in any way by asking questions. Why are you defensive about how UMD builds its team, if you think it is OK?

Your assertion that 19-21 year olds are at the same level physically as 24-25 year olds, however, is absurd. Physical peak in male athletes varies by sport but is generally understood to be at around 25 years old.

So what? I mean seriously. What is the problem?

Eligibility for participation is governed by rules set forth by the NCAA. No one has questioned their eligibility.

If you don’t like the rules, go and complain to the NCAA.
