Maryland single-handedly takes down the Ivy League winning 9-7 over Cornell. NCAA Lacrosse Champions with an undefeated season.
Maryland doing it in the transfer portal and with the 6th year seniors and grad transfers. College athletics at its finest.
It’s sad to be such a hater for a group that lost a whole season due to COVID and accomplished what they have to become one of the best college teams of all time.
Cornell lost 2 seasons due to COVID. Teat and others could have been on their team if they played by MD’s rules. Can you say “sixth year senior” unironically?
Didn’t a bunch of Cornell kids take a deferred year. I don’t blame them but aren’t they essentially the same age? What happens in Utah stays in Utah?
DeMaio is 25, in his 6th year. No one playing at Cornell that age. Teat just turned 25 last month.
As a friend told me today when discussing how old some of these guys are “in any major sport, a 25 year old is a 3 or 4 year vet in the pro’s”. Not so n lacrosse…holdback, redshirt, Covid and there you have it.
It’s an absolute truism that somone who doesn’t go to college or leaves college early to turn pro would have years of experience over someone who graduated from college.
I think the point is in the major sports, the elite players turn pro as early as possible. In lacrosse, Rene elite players have no where to go re pro (PLL is a part time gig), so they stay in school as long as possible to keep playing.
