I haven't left my house in 12 days...literally.

Not OP but I do it every day. I always have something scheduled on zoom/teams and it’s always with clients so need to look professional. And yes, there are plenty of days I don’t leave the house (but never 12 days in a row!)

Fancy treadmill + yoga and stairs.

You’re fooling yourself if you think you are getting vitamin D in the winter in the dc metro area. It doesn’t penetrate your clothing. I take supplements. Plus, we just returned from winter break in a sunny, warm destination.

Just to reiterate: this is a 12 day anomaly, not the norm.

Its not a big deal. I don't go out much due to covid. I take a supplement as even when I'm out in the nicer weather I don't sit in the sun.

OP, you seem very confident that this is all fine and that it makes perfect sense, so why did you start the thread? You seem to have a demanding career you enjoy, a very happy marriage, very self sufficient kids, a good sense of yourself, and a ready answer for all the obvious concerns people have posted in response to your original post. If that is all true why are looking for validation from an anonymous board?

From spring through fall, I'm definitely outside (walking the dog, running, etc.). But during the coldest days of the winter, when it's below freezing, I rarely go out. And my mental health is fine.

My kids and I went for a hike in New England yesterday. 17 degrees Fahrenheit, but 8 with windchill. We had a blast. Proper layers make the cold easy.

That’s nice. Many people don’t like the cold and don’t want to be out in it to walk in circles. They don’t need to and no, there is nothing wrong with them.

My teens are leaving the house with friends all the time. Younger ones go to school and have sports.

It’s 12 days, not a regular pattern.

How can they go to sports if you don’t drive them? You are shifting the work to others, you sound really lazy.

Do you have reading comprehension issues? She said her teens (plural) drive.

I do the cooking (minimal takeout).

Teens drive.

Adulting really isn’t that hard.

I truly feel sorry for your family. And I disagree that you are no depressed. Depressed people are rarely a good judge of it.

Why do you feel sorry for my family? Because I haven’t left the house in 12 days?

They’ve left the house. They’re happy. I’m cooking and baking for them (not relying on takeout).

I’m showering, exercising, and have full hair and makeup M-F for work.

So, you’re taking issue with the fact that I’m not running errands? Not picking up takeout? Not taking walks in the cold? Okay. But, why feel sorry for my family?

I’m not depressed. I’m so happy when I don’t need to scramble on the weekend to get the younger kids to birthday parties, sports and play dates. Because everyone we know has been dealing with covid since the holidays, these last two weekends have been quiet. That’s new and unusual, not the norm. I slept in to 8:30 today, and it was magical.

The only way your non-driving kids are leaving the house is if someone else is taking them. And I do NOT believe you are showering and wearing makeup daily.

Mmkay. Thanks for sharing.

Once again, you are not “getting Vitamin D” in any meaningful amount when you are walking outside bundled up in winter clothes.

And she said she exercises at home.

I take a high dose vitamin D tablet daily due to my thyroid condition-thyroid malfunction apparently depletes your D stores.

I have it tested fairly regularly by my endo. So, I don’t worry personally about trying to get it through my skin.

Between cold weather and COVID and everything mentioned above, I also go multiple days (prob more than 12) without leaving.

What a small world you guys live in. I feel sad for you even if you don’t feel that way.

I feel sad that people seem to equate doing thier hair and makeup with living life.

I think it sounds wonderful❣️

If I had the golden opportunity to truly stay in - then I would be thrilled.

OP - I see nothing wrong in what you are doing.

If you find it relaxing > more power to you!

Thank you! I've posted on this thread earlier (I hate the cold), and it is shocking how this has turned into:

"You're clearly depressed."
"No, I'm actually good, thanks."
"You're in denial. Depressed people don't know they're depressed." [Which is BS, I can assure you as someone who has suffered from depression!]
"No, I'm fine. And this is just a funny anomaly."
"Your vitamin D levels are dangerously depleted. And has anyone mentioned that you are depressed?"

Just because it's not something YOU could do doesn't mean someone who can deal with it is a DSM-IV candidate.

But then why would OP even post? It isn’t funny, it’s weird. But she’s all defensive. Why post at all?

Sorry I meant that my tween wants to be like you - to not leave the house “ever” as he says. Of course I don’t let him stay in for 12 days, but I worry if that’s even normal. He is otherwise ok it seems, when out of the house he is fairly content and adjusted. So reading about you I thought: hmmm maybe that’s normal and I should not worry about it. I hope so.

For all the people complaining about the cold, bundle up! Wear long underwear, layers, put on ski pants and a jacket to keep out the cold and wind. I even wear a hooded gaiter under my hat when I take the dog out.

If I’m not cold wearing this stuff on the top of a windy mountain with single digit temps or lower due to the wind, you’re not going to be cold in 20-30 degree weather in NoVa.

You could ask that about half the posts on DCUM.

Why are you here posting?

Candidly, this is the silver lining of the pandemic for me: working from home, and not having to run around on the weekends.

FTR, I'm not sick. I'm not depressed.

I spent today (Saturday) binge watching a couple shows while doing some housework here and there.

Anyone else, or am I a freak?

Haven't read all the responses but I feel this is in the vain if you know, you know. I totally get it. I am at the same place and realized that I haven't left home in 5 days and I am surprised that I am not going stir crazy when in the past I would. I am not depressed or sick. I think I am just catching up on peace that I have missed out on for the past 14 years. Enjoy it and realize that eventaully it will likely end.
