Wisconsin-Madison?

It's too bad the city and university agreed not to hold night games on Halloween weekend. And against a top 10 team, it will be a crazy day.

Well, an 11AM kickoff means the party is going to get started around 9 in the morning and essentially go all day and all night. It’s a good thing those students at UW are not amateurs when it comes to partying.

So funny that rich white DCUM parents think that their kids use of Wisconsin as a Michigan back up contributes to UW’s “diversity.” You people are just incredible.

Just go away, hater. You seem to have this strange, rabid need to bash a school you know nothing about under the guise of “diversity.” Enough already.

Wish I had saved my parents weekend trip for this weekend!

No school has a better combination of party scene, academics and big time athletics than Wisconsin.

There are lots of programs geared for students of color and the diversity office provides many activities for students to help them have a smooth transition into university life.

DD seems to really enjoy her experience there so far. Academics seem pretty rigorous and there is a wide range of classes for every conceivable interest.

Her classes are a mix of huge lecture halls (with small discussions) and small classes. Huge lectures in auditorium don't seem to bother her as she can still get her questions answered during discussions or office hours.

That is lovely, but DD is not black, right? That's really the sub-thread here. UW has 3% black students.

So now diversity is only about black people?

No, it's about white people from Bethesda attending school 1,000 miles away from home...that's true diversity DUH

I’d say Michigan is pretty equivalent. Perhaps a bit weaker in the party scene, but certainly stronger overall academically and it’s equal or better traditionally in big time athletes. .

New twist on Wisconsin: If you were a Minnesota resident and qualified for in-state tuition at Wisconsin through reciprocity, but could also qualify for resident tuition at University of Manitoba through reciprocity, which would you choose? Assume student is not interested in attending any state schools in Minnesota.

Michigan is a better school academically.

Wisconsin has a pretty campus and setting, and more school spirit, but just slightly so.

They are both absolutely wonderful options for a student who wants a "big time" scene.

What are their long term goals? If they want to be in the States, then UW. If Canada, then UMa.

But, if I were looking at Canadian schools, I would consider Toronto, McGill or UBC before Manitoba.

Except that, assuming Minnesota residency, you could get reciprocity in Manitoba, but would pay full international student tuition at the others. Would prefer in-state tuition at Wisconsin over that.

Michigan is not a better school academically, if one factors in ratings across graduate programs. What Michigan is is more difficult to get into.
