I know this has been a topic here before but didn’t seem to find a recent one..
I’m thinking of changing things up “down there” 38F, married, two kids. Every girlfriend I know seems to wax/shave it all off. I don’t. Shave the sides. Beard trimmer the rest. Call it a “large triangle” if you will. Am I in the minority here? Should I try something new. I know, my body, my choice. Husband doesn’t care. But with everyone I know seemingly doing it — maybe I’m missing out! Haha Watch me wax or shave it all off and then everyone decides hair is in again. Not overly stressed about it. Only curious what DCUM has to say. |
| Assuming that neither you nor your partner is looking at other people's public region, why does it matter what other people do? Do what is comfortable/feels attractive for you. |
| If your husband doesn’t care, why would you wax/shave it off? It’s so much maintenance! |
|
OP here: I guess it’s more of a “why not switch it up” question.
Was only asking out of curiosity. And as someone who seems to be on the minority side of the fence with her closest friends (the only one not bare) why not ask an online community what they do, haha It’s not a serious topic, I know. I’m not trying to save the world. A little levity for a Friday. |

Wait it out. Once you hit late 40s, hair growth slows anyway.
I wouldn't do anything permanent. |
| I’m a regular DIY trimmer/groomer. Takes 1.5 seconds to maintain via shaving cream and a razor in the shower. Started years ago with sides only to create more of a neat line in either side, then gradually went in more and more to a landing strip and kind of buzz cut. |
| I use the closest setting on the trimmer, which is almost like shaving but doesn't give me horrific ingrown hairs. I'm white with very curly hair and my hair must be curlier than most because everything gives me ingrowns. I get them on my legs sometimes too. |
I DIY too but it takes more like 3-5 min and I don't always have time for it. Once a week is all I can manage. |
| I wax the sides but have a full bush. DH loves it. Do whatever makes you happy. |
| 39yo with two kids and a husband who doesn't care, but who appreciates a trim for certain... activities... I shave sides for bathing suits in summer and trim down the rest to the extent that I "have to" but it's otherwise pretty natural. I have no idea what my friends do! But now am tempted to ask some. |
| I lasered down to a triangle. Now I shave sides and keep the rest close cut. Loved full wax but it was constant problems, not to mention the pain! And I have never understood the full shave since I can't get enough to ever be smooth. |
| Being bald “down there” seems to be falling out of fashion. Keep things from peeking out of swimsuit line and you’re good. The rest is up to you. Mix it up if you want. |
That made me gag. |

The bare trend is very much a millennial thing (and i'm sure some Gen Y and Gen X who were still single when it became trendy). WHen i met my DH, literally no one was going bare, and so that's what my generation grew up with and knows. THe generation or two after me had different expectations.
I do think the bare trend will cycle out pretty soon, if it hasn't already. When i was in 6th grade, i distinctly remember my school library had a subscription to Teen Magazine and had a Q&A article where someone said their BF had requested they shave it off, and the magazine advised they immediately break up because their BF was potentially a pedophile. Times change..... |
| I am late 40s and wax it all off. I just do this every 4-6 weeks and then I never have to think about it otherwise. Shaving is pretty easy, but it always feels spiky like a man’s face after a day or so, and waxing feels soft as in grows back in. My DH could care less what I look like down there, this is just my personal preference. |
