Attorney for representation against DCPS

Anonymous
We need an attorney for consultation and maybe legal representation against DCPS . Mismanagement and misinterpretation of rules regarding DC residency for school enrollment and pending adoption. Not an issue for the family law/adoption attorney. More to do with DC affairs, DCPS riddle-like organization, lack of accountability, delayed response.
Heard great things of Kim Glassman and Alana Hecht. But both look like more about special education rights. We will contact one of them but still hope on a more targeted referral from this page.

We are ready to go Racine.

Is Karl Racine the attorney representing DCPS? I thought DCPS has their own counsel.

Are you ready to go, if you don't have a lawyer yet?

(Ok, forget about Racine)

Why do you need an attorney? How much are you willing to pay?

Your post is very confusing. What are you trying to go to court for?

Thank you for your interest and apologizes if you found the post confusing. The post omits information because I cannot go into the details of an issue that is very articulated and also involves private information regarding a kid.
We need an attorney to assist in official communication with DCPS regarding the DC residency of a kid that has a special legal situation. We want this 'specialty' to be reviewed, not dismissed as it has been so far. To do so, we are seeking advice, counselling and maybe representation by an education law attorney in DC. We are aware that there will be costs associated to this type of service. We are relatively new to DC. Our family attorney referred us to a person we were not impressed with. We have names from Google searches and 'Best Attorney' portals, but in addition to these hits we are also seeking referrals based on personal experience. The adoption section of this portal provided some of the best and real-experience advice for our case. That's why I am writing here. The vibe from this section feels very different though. I hope I won't have to regret dropping these lines here. I trust we are all parents here, and I know that empathy and help can be transmitted also in anonymous forums. Thank you.

From your post it appears that it is a little broader than typical special education / denial of FAPE.

As such, I think Kimberly Glassman might be a place to start. She is now a part of Brian Gruber.

First, have you reached out to your city council member? That's whose door I would bang down first.

And even reach out to your local ANC rep to see if they can help get the ear of the council person.

I actually think that Kim Glassman does special education and adoption (CCAN). She might be perfect.

I’ve personally used her for special education in MCPS and really liked her. She was easy to work with and convinced the IEP team to do things that they had refused before she started to help.

Good luck

If you happen to be in Ward 6, I would 100% reach out to Charles Allen. Folks on this forum like to rag on him for his crime policies, but his office is typically very responsive on constituent issues and I have found him far more informed/helpful on DCPS-related issues than other councilmembers.

Ditto for Mary Cheh in Ward 3. Fantastic constituent service.

Charles Allen is terrible on crime but excellent on solving problems like this.
