| Ward 4 councilwoman Janeese Lewis George also has fantastic constituent services. An at-large member might also be able to help- pick Robert White or one of the ones running for re-election and they might be motivated to help since they are running |
| You might want to try the office of the ombudsman while you are figuring out legal help. https://educationombudsman.dc.gov |
| If you have some type of guardianship or notarized letter it shouldn't be an issue. Is this a legal adoption? |
| No recommendations here OP. Just good luck. It sounds like maybe you are protecting this child. Godspeed |
Ward 4 resident here. Can I get an example of this? Or do you live in SP where she goes for repeated "traffic safety walks" while kids get mowed down in front of Truesdell? |
who is getting mowed down in front of Truesdell?? its my IB school and I haven't heard this. |
Seriously? https://wtop.com/dc/2022/02/dc-street-where-child-was-struck-already-being-considered-for-speed-humps/ |
| if you live and pay taxes in DC, it seems like you should only need a temporary custody order to enroll the child |
|
If the question is your residency, they can do a home visit.
If the question is whether you have the right to enroll the child in school, the OSSE ombudsperson, and or the McKinney Vento coordinator, might be good places to start. There are personal injury lawyers who make a specialty of suing DC, but I don't think they'd necessarily know the right people for school registration issues. I'd probably start with the lawyer mentioned above who knows family law and special ed. |
Thanks for this -- this is awful, but the way you phrased it made it sound like this was happening all the time. The Zyaire death was truly awful but not in front of the school. Unfortunately a kid near our charter school was hit by a car too with a similar arm injury. |
+1. Constituent services have been horrible since she took office. |
| Another recommendation for Kim Glassman. She works in adoptions/foster care and special education. |
| Call Michael Eig's office. If they can't do it, they'll refer you to someone who can. |
| without knowing the particular details of your situation, i would be careful to not start paying just any attorney hundreds of dollars per hour in an attempt to address it. the family court lawyers also seem like they should be able to help you secure the right documentation which DCPS will accept. |

Maybe instead of a lawyer you can talk to the dcps enrollment team or the placement office.
This post sounds like someone wants to have assurances of attending a particular school without doing lottery. Dcps enrollment rules are pretty straightforward so I wish you luck with this possible lawsuit |
