Curly “girls” - what calms your frizz on days like today?

Anonymous
Went for a walk with my dog just before the rain hit and my hair is now HUGE. Looking for a very lightweight defrizzer to use on days I don’t wash. I like the volume, but the frizz is too much and much prefer my curls. Even a bun or braids don’t work well on days like this; I just get a frizzy halo around everything. I have a lot of hair, but the strands are very fine and weighed down/greasy by most products. Any suggestions?

Cliche for curly girls, but Deva still works best for me.

I always try a bottle of something else and then when I switch back to Deva I get compliments every time. Also, search the CG FB page and your product ingredients - your hair might react to things like glycerin in this weather.

I like Oway glossy nectar

Gel.

It make take some experimenting to figure out what works best with your texture. You may need to combine with leave in conditioner and another product (maybe a serum). And remember to scrunch out the crunch!

This is my favorite gel right now:

I also use gel, though in my case it's cheap LA Looks or something like that. My hair is fairly thin, so I only use a little bit, but it really helps control the frizz.

What works best is a good routine on wash days, including applying enough product to get a crunchy cast that I can scrunch out. This helps reduce frizz for days afterwards.

+1, I've found the key to battling frizz is to keep it from happening in the first place. I basically never get that frizz poof anymore, even on drizzly or humid days. Instead I'll get more volume and sometimes some tightening of my curls (my hair is usually a pronounced S-wave but it will start to form fat coils under the right conditions, like today). For me the right prep on wash days is to condition, then comb in a leave in, then use "praying hands" to apply my curl protector/enhancer (this varies, but it needs to be a lightweight product with good moisture -- I can't use gels because they cause too much build up and don't facilitate second day hair for me). One more pass with a wide tooth comb, then scrunch.

Also, always air dry. I shower in the evening to facilitate this. Diffusing is for special occasions or emergencies only. If you diffuse frequently, you will get more frizz. Unless the dryer is on a very cold setting (in which case it won't help cut drying time much anyway) there's just no way for it not to have some drying-out effect.

I used a little extra gel today and was fine. Some days that's not enough. I like Deva Curl gel.

How about loving your hair as is?

Pps who recommended Deva products, you shouldn't be using it. There was a big lawsuit that it caused hair loss.

I have water and conditioner mixed in a spray bottle. I spritz it on and then scrunch a bit to revive the curl definition.

NP. I tried this and it doesn’t work for me. In fact, all 4 Ouidad products I tried were worthless on my 3a/3b hair.

From someone still using Deva products with a relative "in the business."

The lawsuit is BS. Haircare products (and others) change "filler" ingredients all the time when a vendor fails them, or prices increase tremendously, or any number of reasons. Additionally, the owner had sold the company, and changed her mind/wanted back in the business. She is now making "Curly World" products, which are even more expensive than Deva Curl products!

Class action lawsuits where most get a few $$ ($20 here) mostly just make the lawyers rich. The insurance company settled because it was cheaper to do so.
