ECNL moving to school year not calendar

New here so honest question. Will all the leagues announce their decisions this week? Like we will find out if GA is going SY or staying BY? Or just ecnl?

The decision should have already been made. GA has to follow ECNL to SY to compete. If MLSN pay to play clubs also stay in BY, they will lose players. I think they will switch too. Only MLS Academy will remain in BY.

USSF said they will roll out a website with resources that will help clubs and leagues decide which registration to choose, after their AGM, which is this week.

My guess is they would lose q3/4 boys to ECNL, at least the ones who aren't getting the playing time they would like. And I doubt they would pick up q1/2 that got displaced, so that would be a net loss for them.

To maximize college recruiting, most players will choose SY.

The Q1/Q2 ECNL who get cut, will move to RL as it is a stronger RL anyway. And those Q1/Q2 is more likely to be the middle pack of the new stronger RL team. Plus they can play HS soccer. My kid is MLSN and he will switch to ECNL regardless of SY/BY as he wants to take a break of ruthless MLSN competition and get 3 months HS soccer to play with friends.

Yes - it is happening in 26/27. No - it is not happening in 25/26. Most everyone agrees with this, including US Soccer.

Define "it." If by "it" you mean the mandate that teams switch to SY, that's pretty well established in the many pages above.

If by "it" you mean ECNL will leave everything "as is" in 25/26, we'll see.

I think people will be surprised when MLSN goes SY and eliminates their late developer program. MLS academy and YNT will be the only programs staying BY.

This is not happening. And GA is BY too.

Who are you? Another dumb shit? SY will align college recruiting better. It is beneficial for pay to play MLSN clubs change to SY. I put my money only MLS Academy remains in BY. And biobanding should only be allowed in MLS Academy to benefit the truly elite players.

You don’t know what you’re talking about. MLS is the one who made sure US soccer did not mandate SY. So why would they want their MLSN system to be SY.

Any player who chooses to leave MLSN for ECNL to maximize college recruiting is not serious about maximizing college recruiting. If you need to drop to SY in ECNL to make it, you ain't makin it bud.

That is just a fantasy, there has been zero indication of what MLS prefers.

So, the only unknown that we may find out about is the SY date of Aug 1 or Sept 1, not necessarily IF ECNL or GA or MLSNext are choosing SY? What are the chances ECNL will finally make their official non podcast announcement?

Who knows at this point? I hope there is clarity after this week, but I will not hold my breath. After listening to some USSF officials on the ECNL podcast, I tend to think that the top leagues will align themselves for the sake of US soccer as a whole. ECNL has had quite a few guys from the UK on recently, I think our system will look a lot like theirs after this all settles.

Is anyone actually confirming the change for 26/27?

Hahaha this is the real question.

If MLSN + GA keep pulling over clubs and they stay BY it will be difficult for ECNL to do SY.

You understand this is bigger than ECNL, GA, and MLSN jockying. The removal of the mandate impacts all of the feeder systems into those leagues. Which is arguably bigger when you consider who will even be considered for these "top" leagues.

Here's the truth that people won't tell you about BY vs SY.

When players are younger it does matter when they were born. Kids grow fast and when they're younger 6 months means more mature, better able to handle the ball, etc. However once they hit u14/u15 girls are 90% done growing. You know which ones are going to have a physical advantage and which ones won't.

What this means is BY or SY doesn't really matter once players hit puberty and it definately doesn't matter once players are u17.

Here's another weird thing you wouldn't expect. The early developers tend to get career ending njuries like ACL tears in HS while later maturing players get injuries in college or even later in life. These are things coaches are looking for that parents don't expect. If a kids on crutches as a junior in hs there's a good chance they'll reinjure themself playing in college.

This is true. For women, up to 60% of ACL tears are reinjuries any given year.

Okay- so where did you get this information that early developers have career ending injuries! The re-injury rate is not 60%. Do some research before spatting out random facts. Unless you want to get to 1000 pages then keep going. My 2013 daughter tore her ACL and is not an early maturer. So it has nothing to do with that!

Believe what you want. But MLS has been against SY change. They have big influence on US soccer. This is why US soccer just released the mandate on BY.

It’s pretty common knowledge amongst soccer people that MLS does not want SY.

That may have been the case in the past but times are changing. Why did MLSN create a new tier that allows players to play high school ball?
