Soccer
Yes - it is happening in 26/27. No - it is not happening in 25/26. Most everyone agrees with this, including US Soccer. |
Define "it." If by "it" you mean the mandate that teams switch to SY, that's pretty well established in the many pages above. If by "it" you mean ECNL will leave everything "as is" in 25/26, we'll see. |
I think people will be surprised when MLSN goes SY and eliminates their late developer program. MLS academy and YNT will be the only programs staying BY. |

BY wants absolutely no change in 25/26
SY wants some transition plans. Fact: even under BY registration, MLS allows 3 players to play down for biobanding. ECNL allows 8th graders to play down. So let’s see if ECNL has the ball to start transition. Just for the sake of operations perspective, it is beneficial to change gradually. |
That would be surprising |
I see it in the realm of possibilities. The late developer rule was a response to RAE, no one can argue that btw, there are no trapped players in MLSN. |
| Only two 8th graders are aloud to play down in the spring season only. No a real sample size and not done by most teams. |
This is not happening. And GA is BY too. |
| ECNL also allows trapped juniors to play in showcases with their SY team. My daughter took advantage of that and it really benefitted her recruiting visibility because her ECNL team only went to one showcase when her team was seniors. That has not been discussed much here. |
| With ECNL allowing 8th and 11th grade trapped players to play down, how hard is it to add the other u13, u15, and u16 and do the same, allow 2 trapped to play SY. It’s only 3 age groups. |
ECNL can definitely make its own rules even under BY registration. BY parents just want nothing to happen so their mediocre players can survive another year. |
Who are you? Another dumb shit? SY will align college recruiting better. It is beneficial for pay to play MLSN clubs change to SY. I put my money only MLS Academy remains in BY. And biobanding should only be allowed in MLS Academy to benefit the truly elite players. |

In the Elite Clubs National League (ECNL), a "trapped player" is a player who is age-appropriate for a higher age group than the grade they are in. Trapped players can participate in certain games under certain conditions.
Trapped player types Trapped U18/U19 player: An 11th grader who is eligible for the U18/U19 age group Trapped U15 player: An 8th grader who is eligible for the U15 age group Trapped player eligibility Trapped U18/U19 players can play in U17 ECNL National Events and all divisions of the ECNL Club Post-season, except for the Champions League Trapped U15 players can play in U14 ECNL Competition during their high school soccer season There is no limit to the number of trapped players that can participate in a game |
GA will switch too, wait and see. |
| I've heard GA is 50/50 on it. |
