College and University Discussion board has become toxic

Congrats - you've made what once a helpful place to share and provide information into a toxic environment mirroring the worst of College Confidential.

Logging off until June - have at it!!

It’s been that way for many years. CollegeConfidential is a totally different demographic—much older parent population and that number one focus is generally affordability there.

DC area people do NOT like to see other people do well, at all.
They can't be happy for others, they do not have it in them. Such a sad existence, really.

If your kid does well they want to think it is because of this or that - not because that kid is the top of their class in.......well, everything.

Maybe a certain school just liked your kid and what your kid has to offer, and your kid is a good fit. Imagine that! GL OP and everyone else who is at a healthy state in their lives.

Also, I don't understand parents who have to have a certain profession for themselves (they barely made it), didn't do well, and now they think their kid is going to HYPSM. It doesn't work that way. And that is okay.

I read because someone always knows when the release dates are! But I am tired of all the armchair experts proclaiming that kid’s activities or personalities are faulty. My guess is they are parents with older adult kids who don’t understand the randomness of the current process or parents of toddlers.

Yes,
The hidden agenda of political mind.

Been toxic for quite a while! You also have to understand that kids get on here just to stir the pot. Gonna happen when it's anonymous and one person can literally post 5 times in a row all sounding like different people to further their opinion, making it seem like lots of people agree with them.

Yes! Now can you please do something about the travel forum.......

It is not about this forum.

They are the exact same people who won't let you merge on the beltway. Who purchase speed passes so they and their children can cut the line in front of less worthy families at Disneyworld. They care about money and status more than other people...or it seems, their on children's mental health or the future of our country.

Yeah, this is one of many places that such people are on display.

Many of the posters we disdain are entitled and selfish.

4 of the ten richest counties in the US are in the DMV. They did not get that way by playing nicely by others. And they do not seek equity or improved conditions for the many Americans who struggle to get by everyday.

They seek a T20 college for their offspring.

Def think this happens. What was relevant even just 4-5 years ago is no longer the case. Nor were the circumstances when some on here attended college from, for example, 2000-2004. Schools have a range of goals to meet when composing a class and there is an element of luck involved in the process even when students put their all into studying, planning, etc.

Regarding release dates, book mark this, then you will not have to return: https://applyingto.college/calendar

Face it, the entire forum can be toxic. I believe it’s the anonymous ability to post. People say a lot of crap here that they would never voice in real life. They pretend to know what is in the admissions officer’s head when they actually work for the federal government 😀 Try not to let it get to you.

I am an older parent and have attended more college tours that I can count and nobody tells you the secret of how to get accepted.

The reality is that most admissions readers are hired seasonally, and at many elite schools the readers are recent grads who are there because they weren’t talented enough to enter consulting or IB. And now they get to decide if your child gets admitted.

Wow, it's hard to believe people like you really exist. Disney Speed Pass? Maybe it's a sign of intelligence not to waste 200 dollars of admission standing in line? How do you know we didn't get wealthy playing nicely? I went to an average college, worked hard, and was seen as valuable enough by my employer to be granted equity that ended up being worth more than I ever thought possible. I forget at which point I stepped on people doing this.
