Reasonable or ridiculous - Uber Eats Question. What do most people do?

Anonymous
Scenario: If you order from a bagel shop or donut shop, if you get sent a different variety than what you requested, do you ask for your refund? Say you ask for a jelly donut and they send a Bavarian cream or you pay for the everything bagel and receive a salt bagel.

Which camp do you fall in:

A) Reasonable response to request a refund as it wasn’t what you ordered and you’d do the same in person/not order had you known it was not actually available

or

B) Ridiculous to complain because it’s likely they’ve just run out and are giving you the closest item to the one you requested

So I never ask for the refund and chalk it up to it must just be what they had. Which means I often settle for something I dislike or wouldn’t normally eat. DH on the other hand is a firm you didn’t get what you requested and you’ve paid for it, so you need to complain.

Complain. Uber Eats eats it.

If I'm spending this much to have other people pick up food for me, I want what I asked for.

Send it back and get what I ordered.

I would ask for a refund unless the item I actually received was something I liked or at least didn't mind. They shouldn't just give you whatever if in fact they didn't have what you ordered. Not sure what is "ridiculous" about expecting what you paid for.

If it's one bagel or one donut I consider it a fine for being so lazy as to order one bagel/donut. If it's two dozen for a party or something like that, I'd complain.

+1 Also the shop has the ability to contact the customer directly to ask about substitutions. Funny for this post, but that has happened to me several times from bagel shops.

This. It’s their responsibility to either keep their online inventory up today, or to contact you to ask if you want the substitution. If you’re at a restaurant and order chicken, they shouldn’t just bring out beef because they ran out of chicken.

Having said that, barring an allergy, I wouldn’t complain if I order sesame seed and got poppyseed. But something gross like blueberry? Absolutely. There’s no point in ordering if you’re not going to get food that you enjoy.

Reasonable

You're supposed to get what you ordered . Problem is, it's not the driver's job to make sure the correct items are in the bag . Additionally, he has no way of doing that since for sanitary and security reason he can't go around opening containers. Good customer service on the part of the shop would require them to be proactive by apologizing and including a note explaining the situation and , most importantly, giving you some kind of discount to soften the inconvenience caused by them.

You "often" settle for getting the wrong thing? How "often"?

I usually order Uber Eats while working so maybe 3 or 4 of 10 orders will have an incorrect item. I don’t complain and just let it be for the most part. Something like a donut being lemon filled instead of jelly or bagel differences are the main areas I’ll receive a different item.

I stopped ordering Uber eats because of all the mistakes and overall crappy service.

Cool story.

I received an incorrect item with an order once. After each order they ask you to rate the food. There was an option to say you received a wrong item. I checked it and Uber automatically refunded me. I wasn’t even expecting that.

Pre-pandemic I would probably complain but now i just figure it doesn’t matter that much

I would always complain. You order off a menu and you expect that product. There isn’t a “send me anything” choice from the restaurant.
