Why don’t Uber drivers have EZ Pass?

Been going downtown for a conference for the last few days and sitting in an Uber right now. Of the 8 Ubers I’ve been in the last few days, only one driver had an EZ Pass and took 66 without me telling him to. And he was a DC-based driver, you would think the VA-based ones would be more likely to have them. Of course I’ll pay whatever tolls, but they aren’t even needed on 66 with two of us in the car. I’m mostly just annoyed that they all want to take the effing scenic route and I have to dictate to them how to get on the highway and to ignore their map telling them to get off and take the backroads.

I hope he has a VA EZ-pass otherwise he will be on the hook for the tolls.

The driver has to paid for that and it most likely eats in to their profit or lack of profit.

I had the opposite problem where even though I was the one paying for the toll and telling them to take the toll route, they would give me a hard time.

It gets billed direct to the customer. I live in Ashburn and most drivers here have it. They have to ask that you will agree to the toll charges and if you do, it just applies to your account.

Yes, why can't the Uber drivers get the EZPass Flex? I'm right inside the Beltway, so HOV 2 is free with the Flex. SO ANNOYING. Should I start bringing my EZPass with me?

Not all Uber drivers live in VA.

Unless you’re in the HOT lanes, you can still pay at the toll booths.

OP here. I started wondering that myself. I shouldn’t have to argue with someone who drives for a living about the benefit of taking 66. I don’t have an extra 45 minutes to spare, dude. Don’t argue with me and just bill me the $5 for the Toll Road. Most of the drivers relented, but it was effort on my part. I’m going to start putting that in my request when I order them. Don’t pick me up if you don’t have an EZ Pass.

Unless that has changed, Uber doesn't pay drivers for tolls incurred on I66 because of the fluctuation of prices.

If they have a customer there is no fee on 66.
