| A car skipped the curb and hit a bunch of outside diners. |

For the love of God, can we please just take people's car keys away on their 80th birthday. Nothing funny about this, at all. |
| This is tragic and horrible. Why would it be funny? |
This could happen to anyone - not paying attention, health emergency, drugs/alcohol....Scary. |
95 year old MIL thought it was the big bamboozle to go into the DMV, fail the vision test 3 times, and have the clerk grant her her driver's license, anyway. Legally blind and driving. Wonderful. |
It has already been stated that it was an elderly driver who confused the brake and gas pedals. |
These stories always grip my heart. Obviously it’s incredibly horrible for the families of the people who died. But I also think about that person living their whole life and then not wanting to give up their independence and something like this happens. Crushing all around. |

This recently happened in Florida. Elderly woman, man killed dining outside at restaurant. Woman not charged, because it was an "accident."
Honestly I think after 65, everyone needs to be retested every 5 years. Hell, I wouldn't mind everyone being tested every 5 years, because lord knows there are so many people who never should have received licenses in the first place |
Anyone who wants to drive will, with or without a license. |
| Have the names of the victims been released? This is so sad. |
so...there should be no checks and balances? And no, that's not true. Lots of people will continue to drive until "they" say they can't, or until their kids take the keys away and sell the car etc. |
Except that now, all due to sheer selfishness, one party is dead and one party is not. The issue is a no brainer, to me. Ny law there should be no driving after age 80. Period. Testing every year from age 70-80. No excuses. And no pity licenses. |
+1 Such BS. Driving is a privilege, not a right. Drivers don't have a right to plow into whomever. |

My mom is 90 and drives, one mile, to the local shopping center. She is scared to get into a taxi with a stranger.
I wish no one was permitted to drive until age 18 and under very strict conditions such as in Europe. I am a high school teacher and i cannot believe these 16 year olds are driving. They can barely read and have no concentration. As a parent, my kids were permitted to drive at 18 and with the grades they should be getting. |
|
My parent had to pay to get a drivers assessment - over $700. If people are going to be required to take an assessment it should be free and easily available.
