African appetizer

I am planning an event with an international theme. It's just going to be heavy appetizers and we're hoping to do a couple foods from each continent.

I think our menu is pretty much set except for Africa. We're going to do a platter with a variety of North African dips (hummus, labneh . . . ) but I feel like we need one more thing.

Suggestions? I'd like finger food, not something that needs a table.

We're doing a mix of things we purchase (e.g. we're going to do a sushi platter) and things that we make. So either a recipe or a suggestion for a restaurant to buy something would be welcome.

This is kind of along the same lines as dips - but you could buy several platters of Ethiopian food with injera.

I'm sure there are more authentic recipes out there, but fataya are delicious and have been a huge hit when we've served them.

In this region, Ethiopian food is the no-brainer for takeout. As a PP suggested you could have precut rolls of injera with the various dishes. Sambusa are another option.

If you want to cook it yourself, the book In Bibi's Kitchen has beautiful stories and recipes from the African countries along the Indian Ocean - you might find something you like there.

South African wines could be a great beverage choice, and there is also this amazing South African dessert called malva pudding.

Definitely Ethiopian dishes. Mom organic has the best lentil to use for finger food plus you don’t have to buy ingera. Instead buy a bag of pitta chips

Oooh that does! Unfortunately we've got peanut allergies to contend with, but I found a recipe for peri-peri shrimp that looks really good. Maybe I can make skewers? Does that sound good to people?
