While waiting for my number to be called at the deli I randomly saw this jar of boar's head "sweet vidalia onions in sauce." Low calorie and low sodium, so I figured why not. It is absolutely fantastic on a sandwich. And then this week I bought a different brand's "onion jam," which lacks the chunks onion of boar's head, but similar concept and flavor. It is also fantastic. If your family is sort of bored by deli sandwiches, even when using bakery bread, high-quality meats and cheeses, I highly recommend grabbing a jar of onions. They're only like 5 bucks. I personally can't stand raw onions on a sandwich, too overpowering, but love the depth these products add.
Sorry if I'm way late on this. It's possible this stuff has been popular for years. |
| Thanks for the tip! I add pickled yellow peppers or kimchi to sandwiches sometimes. |
| Try adding it your vinaigrette: onion jam, Dijon, cider vinegar or salsa mix, garlic olive oil, salt and pepper. OMG. |
| That should be cider vinegar or balsamic!!! |
| I love boars head sauces! Their chipotle is my absolute favorite on almost every sandwich. DH bought me some offbrand chipotle dressing stuff for my sandwiches and it was only 10% as good. |
sacre bleu.. mais non. this is as terrible as cheese on kimchee. What are people doing to kimchee!?!! |
I think both yellow peppers and kimchi have a lot of salt? I'm hesitant to add items that add [more] sodium to already pretty salty deli sandwiches. And I already love grilled onions on hamburgers, so this was like finding those grilled onions in a jar, with surprising little sodium. I wish I'd looked for them sooner, I'm sure these products have been avail for a while. |
They are putting it on sandwiches. I thought the PP was clear? |

I had jarred roasted red pepper on my hummus and cheese and spinach sandwich today and it rocked. Sometimes I used marinated artichoke hearts.
Thanks for the onion tip! |
| Cento Cherry Pepper Hoagie Spread 💯 |
We're currently addicted to this on sandwiches and burgers.
|
| Is that stuff really $20??? |

You can pickled anything and put them in sandwiches. Like pickled radish, daikon, kimchi, carrots, cabbage like coleslaw without the mayo.
But, if hate sour stuff, oh well. |
| Man I really want a sandwich now. |
Kimchi, cheddar cheese, smoked turkey, and tomato is one of my favorites sandwiches. OP—I may have to get some of your onion spread. Carmelized onions are too sweet for me, but my family is obsessed with them. |
