Our ECNL director told us to withhold buying air tickets for the playoff. So you are bluffing.

Our ecnl director also told us to hold off on flights for the national playoffs in San Diego. Already clinched a spot, but there’s a possible change in format for this year. So we’re waiting until the results of the us soccer AGM this week.

Will ecnl allow teams to bring trapped players to the San Diego playoffs in June? Trapped players didn’t help earn playoff spots this year.

I stopped following this thread last year (so apologies if this is current topic of discussion - I am out of the loop). A parent told me at a game this weekend that my trapped player will be aged down to 2013 in the Fall 2025. That its now up to the clubs to make the BY/SY decision. Is this accurate?

Welcome to youth soccer where winning is everything.

Is anyone actually confirming the change for 26/27?

Hahaha this is the real question.

If MLSN + GA keep pulling over clubs and they stay BY it will be difficult for ECNL to do SY.

You understand this is bigger than ECNL, GA, and MLSN jockying. The removal of the mandate impacts all of the feeder systems into those leagues. Which is arguably bigger when you consider who will even be considered for these "top" leagues.

If ECNL, MLSN, GA stay BY but the majority of youth leagues goto school year, I wonder what effect that would have on the kids development. For example would kids play SY until U13 and the. Would teams have to shift completely to make them work for BY.
Seems like leagues would need a BY/SY feeder system for younger ages.

Well for starters it would mean that the boys YNT won’t lose the gains they’ve been making.

And that GA probably won’t eat away much at ECNL’s college marketshare, but might finally break into ECNL’s girls YNT marketshare.

If ECNL allows 2 Q3/Q4 to play in the younger group after 3/2, you will see many GA players showing up during practice. GA will immediately lose hundreds of the best Q3/Q4 players in one week! We are preparing for that possibility.

I guess then ECNL's Q1/Q2 players will start showing at GA practices then, especially if apparently they don't want to sit on the bench. Makes sense since usually the MOST pull any youth soccer player has is when they JOIN a new club.

The answer to your question lies in the validity of the source of that parents statement. And validity of the information on this thread is the million dollar question we should all have an answer to at the end of this week.

It is up to the leagues (not clubs) to set a cutoff but no league has announced anything yet and US soccer said there will be no change until 26/27. Now, some clubs might start shuffling teams next year in anticipation of the change, but that is yet to be seen. We will know more in a week. But I think it’s safe to assume ECNL will go to a SY cutoff for 26/27 so your kid will likely be placed with a group of 2012 and 2013s as opposed to just 2012’s.

Can't imagine that it'd be a club decision -- when it'll be up to leagues on BY/SY. That is unless during this transition season clubs are given the option to field SY but play up within a BY structure.

Can you explain why/how a trapped 2012 will be placed on a team of 2012s and 2013s for 25/26 when it will still be BY registration?

Again - been off this thread awhile - what is happening in a week? Thanks. Appreciate it.

US Soccer has an open BOD meeting on Friday at 8am. Will be on the YouTube channel. Maybe there will be answers there?

Under BY, it would work by having that 12/13 play up in a BY 12 league. The change basically would be promoting a bunch of 2013 players to your kid's team while older players leave to another team, presumably a 11/12 playing in 2011.

Creating rosters like that would weaken BY teams firn25/26. I don’t see our club participating until 26/27.

So your kid didn’t make an ECNL team?! But an ECNL coach is going to pick your kid over existing ECNL National team Q3s? Yeah, good luck with that!

I think the GA Q3 dad wants the ECNL Q1 spots.
