ECNL moving to school year not calendar

Hope ECNL can have some transition plan. Have a good Q3 GA player, would love to switch to ECNL for the ECNL Spring showcase opprotunity. Understand some BY parents want to hold the spot for another year.

Our ECNL director told us to withhold buying air tickets for the playoff. So you are bluffing.

That’s because your teams 5th in your league standings.

Is anyone actually confirming the change for 26/27?

Hahaha this is the real question.

If MLSN + GA keep pulling over clubs and they stay BY it will be difficult for ECNL to do SY.

You understand this is bigger than ECNL, GA, and MLSN jockying. The removal of the mandate impacts all of the feeder systems into those leagues. Which is arguably bigger when you consider who will even be considered for these "top" leagues.

If ECNL, MLSN, GA stay BY but the majority of youth leagues goto school year, I wonder what effect that would have on the kids development. For example would kids play SY until U13 and the. Would teams have to shift completely to make them work for BY.
Seems like leagues would need a BY/SY feeder system for younger ages.

ECNL can not release their plan without US Soccer approval, but they have already given enough hints in the podcast. It really depends on how hard you want to twist it in your way.

Here's the truth that people won't tell you about BY vs SY.

When players are younger it does matter when they were born. Kids grow fast and when they're younger 6 months means more mature, better able to handle the ball, etc. However once they hit u14/u15 girls are 90% done growing. You know which ones are going to have a physical advantage and which ones won't.

What this means is BY or SY doesn't really matter once players hit puberty and it definately doesn't matter once players are u17.

Here's another weird thing you wouldn't expect. The early developers tend to get career ending njuries like ACL tears in HS while later maturing players get injuries in college or even later in life. These are things coaches are looking for that parents don't expect. If a kids on crutches as a junior in hs there's a good chance they'll reinjure themself playing in college.

This is true. For women, up to 60% of ACL tears are reinjuries any given year.

Lot of dumb comments on this thread, this one takes the cake.

If your kid should switch…switch! Quit finding excuses to not switch. You’re legit blaming some other kid for you and your kid not trying. Lame.

It’s so dumb that players, parents, coaches and even club directors only find out what ECNL is doing through its blathering bloviating podcast.

Well for starters it would mean that the boys YNT won’t lose the gains they’ve been making.

And that GA probably won’t eat away much at ECNL’s college marketshare, but might finally break into ECNL’s girls YNT marketshare.

If ECNL allows 2 Q3/Q4 to play in the younger group after 3/2, you will see many GA players showing up during practice. GA will immediately lose hundreds of the best Q3/Q4 players in one week! We are preparing for that possibility.

GA or ECNL it is all the same stuff = youth soccer that may or may not help your kid go to college. It all depends on academics if you want a good college. Otherwise enjoy some name college just for the sake of a scholarship
