Why isn’t anyone else running in District 5????

Brenda Wolff needs to go. Why hasn’t anyone stepped up to run for her seat?? Come on, people. She can’t just win this thing unopposed…

Why aren't you running?

This is strange. If nothing else, I hope there is a write-in protest vote (Mikey Mouse, Leave SeatVacant, etc.).

Well, then, start networking! Find the candidate and help get them elected!

There are a bunch of people running for the new east county district county council seat. Maybe one or two of them should switch over to the BOE race.

Due to county identity politics, I imagine that no one is willing to run against her for fear of being trashed as racist or something. Probably the only way to beat her is to run another Black woman against her.

This isn't the USSR - spoiling your ballot doesn't actually change the outcome.

LOLOLOL. Yes, because white men have historically been disenfranchised in electoral politics. Hint: you can run against anyone you want, just don't run on a platform of racist dog whistles.

The actual answer is that the people who are most likely to complain about the current board are the least civic-minded, and so they don't want the hassle of a public service job.

It's more likely that nobody is running because the BOE is a "part-time" job that pays $30k/year, but to do it well and actually provide oversight, you're essentially full-time. Not a lot of people can afford that paycut. Or even if you stay at your regular job, how many can take 1-2 days of leave a week for all-day board meetings? It's rigged so retirees, people of means, and non-breadwinners are most likely to participate.

Filling deadline was yesterday according to the desperate text I got two weeks ago from the folks at mcgop.com

Huh? Just run a decent issues based campaign and nobody can call you racist!

They've extended the deadline until March 22nd.

This. I certainly know some people who I think would do well on the BOE, but they already have fulltime jobs without the sort of flexibility a BOE seat would require.
