Virginia private school masks— any updates?

My children’s school hasn’t said a word. Masks still required. I’m getting frustrated by the silence. Any schools dropping masks yet?

Our school is still masking and that’s fine by me!

Ours just started allowing maskless outside if kids are separated. No chance of unmasking inside this year.

Going optional March 1.

Time to start speaking out OP

Ours has had an "offramp" for a while and they are sticking to it. Masks will become optional when covid levels in the county hit a certain level. They likely will hit that level soon, if trends continue. But if they bounce back up, masks will be required.

School says they will also do PCR tests onsite, weekly, for the first month of the mask-optional phase. They test when we return from breaks, too.

Ours went mask optional in early February.

Op here. I intend to. Our school needs to plan to offer mask optional by after spring break. If they set metrics and the kids have to mask back up, fine. But while things are good, I’d like my kids to have some mask free interactions. Plus I think it I will help ease the anxiety of parents who can’t ever see dropping masks. If they see that some good results occur (or not bad results) they too may relax. Even a week without masks would be so good. Let the kids smile and laugh and be seen by the teachers and vice versa.

Potomac School is not dropping the mask requirement. Fine by us. I haven’t heard that anyone has a problem with it - my high schooler says no one thinks about it anymore. It isn’t an issue.

that is so cute that you think that. After March 1 they will be unmasking especially if they sent out emails saying they were masking due to former Gov. You can't pick going along with one Governor and not the other.

I love how you think “so cute” is an effective way to argue your point. It makes you sound trite as is your argument. Schools with masking in place were following local health departments and other public schools’ leads. Private schools don’t have to do anything Youngkin says. That’s the beauty of private schools.

They literally sent an email that they had no plans to stop indoor masking this school year, but would reevaluate over the summer to determine a course of action for next year.

Private schools can require everyone to wear mismatched socks, slippers, and a party hat to attend if they so desire. They can certainly require masks. The governor’s policy only applies to public schools.

Aw, good luck with that. Maybe time to try public school?
