Are moderate or center-left leaning Democrats considering voting for Kelly Schulz (R) for governor of Maryland, if she gets the nomination, the way they crossed over for Hogan (twice)?
Does she appear more of a Hogan Republican.... anti-Trump, laser-focuses on pocketbook issues and common sense good governance while leaving social issues alone, or would she be more like a Youngkin, a Trumper in a fleece vest, and immediately undermine socially liberal values and go all in on the culture war? |

The devil you know vs. the devil you don't know
I'm not convinced she can get out of the primary without going full-on Trump. The CRT/pandemic school stuff is quickly moving in the rear window - Youngkin got lucky with timing. |
Haha. No way. This will still be an issue in November. |

I don't think there is an answer. Her voting record from 10 years ago in the state legislature is available. Comptroller of Maryland is not exactly a position that allows one to get involved in hot button issues.
On her website she has pretty run of mill economic conservative positions. She does have a video pledging to keep schools open and helping kids catch up. She is a mother. She also named a physician as the lt gov candidate. These are smart moves that will be very appealing to many middle of the road voters. |

Yes Kelly Schulz wants to run as Hogan’s heir but I don’t think Hogan will embrace that storyline and it will be pretty hard to win a primary running on competence and (at least implicitly) anti-Trump.
Dan Cox is much closer to Youngkin, except of course Youngkin’s recipe for success was to hide behind his fleece vest and let people project what they wanted onto him. Cox is loud and proud about being a Trumper and can’t win a general in MD. |
In other words, dishonest, grifting right wingers have secured enough funding to astroturf and lie about these issues for the next several months. |
They are going to try to spin-up white parents and grandparents with grievances, but I don't think it will have the same hit in 2022. Kids are back in school, kids are getting vaccinated, masks are coming off, etc. The anti-CRT stuff has been shown for what it is - a bunch of neo-Confederate garbage. Any extremist steps taken by Youngkin can be pointed to by MD Dems. Further, the upcoming SC ruling on abortion will have the effect of a nuclear bomb going off. Can you really trust a Republican in the Governors' mansion? MD just doesn't have the extremist, hard-right Southern element that you find in Virginia. |
Hogan endorsed her. She’s his handpicked successor. |
| She will have a hard time winning the primary even if she could win the general. |
Yup. Without the Republican primary, she would be the odds on favorite for Governor, particularly when you look at the Democrats running. |
Hogan has already embraced it, as she is a logical extension of his record. She's way more Hogan than Youngkin. |
She will win the primary easily. Dan Cox doesnt even have the money to get on TV, and he is a known loon. The only people propping up Dan Cox's campaign are the dems, because he is the much preferred candidate to run against. |
Of course the whole point of Youngkin is you don’t really know how they will govern until you elect them. |
No will not consider anyone from the insurrections party. |
Really? He seemed pretty obvious. I'd say a wolf in sheep's clothing but he didn't hide the wolf very well. |
