Hello fellow parents!
I have been breastfeeding my 11 month old when we are physically together and sending him to daycare with 2 bottles of pumped milk + 1 bottle of formula for a few months now. He will turn one soon and i am wondering if/how much i will be pumping after introducing cow’s milk. Any experiences you can share? |
| I didn't. Once my kid turned 1 I nursed in the morning and when we got home from daycare. I weaned entirely around 18 months. |
| There is no reason to switch to cows milk at all. It’s just the dairy industry and government in cahoots with each other making you think you do. |
|
It's totally up to you.
I kept pumping until 18 months for each kid. We also never introduced cow's milk. |
So you don’t give your kids yogurt, cheese or ice cream?! |
Why? Dairy is such an easy source of calcium and with some milk vitamin d. It makes no sense to exclude milk and dairy. |
| No. Once my kids were drinking cows milk I didn’t leave nanny any breastmilk bottles. It was wonderful!!! |
My kids eat cheese and yogurt and take a vitamin d supplement and eat a balanced diet. There's no need for cows milk. |
Cheese and yogurt is cows milk, dear. So I guess your kids do have a need for cows milk. |
+1. God love her - she always posts the same thing. She seriously has no clue that yogurt and cheese are 100% cows milk. |
| Nope, I stop pumping when they start on cow's milk. I keep nursing mornings, nights, and weekends/vacations. |
| Thanks everyone, OP here. Just to clarify - i am giving him cow’s milk and asking about that scenario. Did not seek opinions on what to feed my own child. |
| Basically I have been told that if you have an abundant supply no need to pump but low supply people may need to pump to have enough (for nursing other times.) Since I have struggle with supple will probably still pump but cut the frequency. (Baby is 9 months) however I think it is an individual choice and either way is fine. |
OT but there are Sheeps milk cheese and yoghurt and also goats milk cheese (probably also yoghurt) so totally possible to feed those things without relying on cows milk. My baby’s first yougurt was sheeps milk but and I love sheeps milk ricotta. That being said cows milk is fine too just not a necessary ingredient in yoghurt or cheese. |
| I would find pumping to be too much work past 12 months. Agree with BFing at home and calling it a day. Your kid will do fine on cow's milk. |
