Are preschools announcing no mask dates?

Anonymous
I see it in the Maryland and Virginia school threads, but nothing about the younger kids. Have ANY preschools or daycares announced a date or is it still not a conversation because there’s no vaccine for kids this young?

Some preschools are already no mask for kids.

Can you be more specific? Locations?

There has been no movement in the regulations I can see. We are forgotten again.

No masks at my daycare in Montgomery.

Given that our NOVA preschool just doubled down this week with a weekly testing requirement for all kids I’m assuming they will be in masks at least through 2024. We are definitely looking for less extreme alternatives.

I know of a few in Bethesda and Potomac

Our DC daycare has said they will not remove masks until the under 5 can be vaccinated. That date seems to be slipping further away so I assume masks forever for us.

Could you share which ones?

That really could mean masks forever, or until summer and who knows what cases will be like then. I'd be so annoyed.

In VA, its never been required, but they do it anyway Very few are mask optional - I heard FAZ was and one other in McLean but nothing in Arlington as far as I know. Apparently the CDC is coming out with new guidance but chances are they will continue to push masks on the unvaccinated - aka babies.

DC daycares have to follow the OSSE guidelines, so if OSSE changes their policies, the daycares will likely follow suit, but their hands are sort of tied without this, i believe their accreditations could be in jeopardy if they did not. I have decided to hold out hope they will change their policy soon, since I have gotten very used to disappointment anyway.. haha

I’m super annoyed but many parents support the director in this. Unfortunately the ones who are most vocal in masking have kids 0-2 who aren’t masked. We have a very active listserv that gets heated quickly and the few (myself included) who suggested looking for off ramps to masking were immediately labeled as right wing, Trumpers, etc.

Note that OSSE does not REQUIRE masking outside, but only encourages/recommends it. Two very different things. I support an end to all masking, but am lobbying my daycare to end outside masking as a starting point under current OSSE guidance.

Did not know that, but I can see how this could be yet another thing to fall on the teachers shoulders, and as much I dislike it I understand why some schools just don't want to deal with keeping track of kids masks why they are running around and playing or out for walks and making sure everyone has it back on properly before walking in the door. The teachers are already saints, they already have so many extra things to do now bc of covid, so I am all for trying to make their jobs as easy as possible.
