I’d like to share something with all the pit and pit mix haters. I have a shelter dog that looks like a mix between a beagle and maybe a lab. She’s 35 lbs and very friendly and cuddly.
For fun we just did the DNA test and somehow she is about 40% pit. I know she doesn’t look like it at all because I have had people literally say to me things like, “so glad you got a hound mix from a hound rescue instead of some pit bull mix from a regular shelter.” A neighbor is solidly anti-pit and she can’t walk by without saying hello and petting her. People say, “she such a sweet beagle!” They flock to her, pet her, feed her treats, play with her, send their kids over to her. Mind you for the first 4 years of her life we had no idea. And neither did you. Neither do you. You love my pit mix. She’s not the only one. You just aren’t aware. |

The vast vast majority of mutts born in the US have pit and chihuahua in them.
So if you’re getting a shelter dog, odds are great that it is a.) a mutt and b.) has some pit in it, whether you can see that visibly or not. |

Thanks, op!
My dog is the same and people love her! |
| In other words, you dog doesn't have pit bull jaws that can kill, right? So what's your point? |
+1 |
| Pits/pit mix should be banned and culled |
+1 I probably do love your dog just like I love pit bulls. But the problem with pit bulls is there strength and those jaws! All dogs can bite by a Chihuahua bite is different than a pitbull bite, and that’s what people are afraid of. So I’m not sure what your point is with your post, but yeah, I’m sure I love your dog. |

The point? The point is some people on this board call to euthanize all pit and pit mixes. Without exception.
Maybe they wouldn’t be so adamant if they knew they were already consorting with the “enemy.” |
| Love pits, love mutts, love dogs. Dogs are good. |

Do you want to cull & ban all German Shepherds? Their bite force is greater than pits. |
| To be fair, your dog is about 60% NOT pitbull and is only 35 lbs. Most people don't realize that there's a huge range in size within the pit bull/staffordshire terrier label. They picture a 60 lbs muscular dog with a dead eye stare. |
Exactly! They go on and on about euthanizing all pits/pit mixes on this board and they don’t even really understand the wide range of dogs under the “pit” umbrella. Average American Pit Bull Terriers are actually quite small, especially female at 30-40 lbs. People should learn about them before engaging in blanket hate. |
dp Sure, but like the pp above said ALL pits should be killed even those with 40 percent pit. Btw, I was the op of the "positive pit stories thread" that got derailed by the hysterics of haters. |
dp why not compare dogs of similar "threat" . Comparing a Chihuahua to a pit is disingenuous. Why not compare a chihuahua with a Bischon? or a Cane Corso with a American pit bull terrier? |
This is OP: I actually was going to post under that thread and realized it was locked. As they say, haters gonna hate. But they should be aware they also love pit mixes and aren’t even aware. It’s the “kill all of them” chant that gets me, because not one of them would say to have my dog euthanized if they met her. Their fears are largely misplaced. There are aggressive and untrainable dogs out there and dogs that bite. They should be dealt with as experts see fit. But if they understood most pit mixes were just plain old dogs and not monsters, maybe they would stop with the “kill them all” stuff. |
