As a parent of a kid who went through something significant at a top area private, I was gobsmacked by the reaction. Closed ears, close ranks, no show even of concern. Understand the school defenders can’t believe that’s how a school they may love and have good experiences with would respond like this I. wouldn’t have believed it until it happened to our family.

This is exactly why this is so important. Russell Shaw needs to be let go for this. This is the only stuff we know of in the media. We don't know about secret agreements with an NDA or stuff that's not public.

He was leaving anyway so not a meaningful consequence, I’m afraid…

I assume the record will speak for itself if he ever wants another HOS position down the road?

I can't imagine this will help his career.

Lmao the dozen people in this thread that think there’s a conspiracy and think DCUM is going to haunt Russell and diminish his accomplishments across 20 years at a prestigious private school in DC are delusional.

What exactly has he accomplished?

lol. I’m not even there but eve I know he raised like $100k, built a campus, and in general, his stewardship of the school was viewed as excellent.

I hope he raised more than $100k!

That was just building the campus. The man did phenomenally. But anyway how do you have any expertise in assessing his fundraising acumen?🤦

100k is not a lot for a private school. I suspect he raised more money that that.

Lmao I meant $100 million. I’m not a GDS parent but I guess I’ve heard that number thrown around as the price tag for the build out on their current campus during his tenure . I’m sure there were many more millions over 20 years. My point is, there are a handful of people on this thread with a lot of self-righteous anger toward Russell, but his long stewardship of this prestigious school is generally viewed as having been excellent. He’s not going to have any trouble earning money going forward if he chooses to work.

I think people are mostly upset about the timing and tone of the school's communications to the community about all of this.

Just FYI, there have been a number of posts containing unsupported allegations that I have removed. Despite conspiracy theories suggesting that GDS is somehow pulling my strings, to my knowledge nobody from the school has been in touch with me (anyone can anonymously use the "report" button so I can guarantee the school has not done that).

Every time there is a controversy involving a private school, posters made inappropriate posts that have to be removed. Similarly, every time this happens, there are assertions that I am either being paid off or threatened to remove the posts. If either of those allegations were true, I would either have been sued into poverty by now, or bribed to the point that I would have retired to the French Riviera long ago. So, while I appreciate the conjuring of vivid imaginations as much as anyone, the truth is simply boring.

I feel so sad for the boy and his family. Given the circumstances it was never that likely the perps would be identified, but there was no need to be so callous toward him and the family. The message to other students really was unfortunate too.
