I had heard anecdotally that they were going to try to keep kids on grade at Arlington. Anyone else hear that? |
They also said if the kid is best option for that team. Remember they have to also help the trap year players that are older too. So if you kid is stuck in SY, he or she could move to a second team if he/she is not the best option for the TEAM. |
Every decently sized club is going to see a shuffle of the deck for sure. Even at smaller clubs, they will have to really think about how to form teams. For example, the smallish USYS club near me has two 2010 teams and zero 2011. The two 2010 teams are both a mix of 10s and 11s. So what do they do next year? Stay as-is and end up with 2011s potentially playing against 09s? Combine some of the older 10s with their 9s? Etc. |
No reason to guess, they litteraly have this on their website. Plus this: Q: Is registration based on your grade in school? A: No it is still based on your date of birth to determine the age group you will play. A child held back a year in school, will not be impacted. |
I thought a lot of playing up exceptions also until ECNL and all these clubs started applying pressure to play on age. And around tryouts, parents of Aug-Dec kids will worry about playing time when they see the bigger/older kids shoving if they play up an age group which hurts their chances of furthering their playing careers. The bench is the youngest too often to ignore. |
There will be more exceptions than a normal year, but, as you note, they will mainly be at less competitive clubs (i.e., USYS). The other thing that seems to go overlooked in these 'play up' discussions is that you also have to be good enough to actually do it. Remember, there will be older players, now playing on age, playing with the former team. Plus outside competition from older players. So there will be downward pressure from across the board to play in your age bracket even if you don't want to. |
Yes thats what I heard as well. |
Keep kids on Grade does not mean keep kids on same team. |
You are such a sneaky lier. Yes there are multiple grades playing in a BY showcase. This is because in BY theres more trapped players than in SY. Also the players that you see in the BY "wrong g" grade are playing up. With SY and young Aug/Sept players they would be playing down. This is a HUGE difference. Players playing up a grade are recruitable Players playing down a grade are not recruitable. It really is this simple. |
This will only make sense when all parents realize that not every kid is recruitable. Not every kid is going to play in college. Not every kid is going to play D1 |
It is the truth. There are way way more players playing down with players a grade younger right now. That is not speculation or a lie. It is the absolute truth. You can pretend that they are actually not playing down, and the other players are playing 'up' but that is just semantics. They are a grade older than the kids they are playing with. The facts are the facts. In the current system, a ton of players are playing with kids in different grades. Even in showcases. And no one cares. It is fine. In the new Seasonal system, far fewer players will be playing with kids in a different grade. Even in showcases. And no one will care. It will be fine. Also, if you're gonna call me a 'lier', at least spell it right. Or not, it is one of your cute personality quirks DAG. |
Please stop. Let parents and clubs worry about individual situations. You don’t get an opinion about other people’s kids. Crazy parents may make a kid unrecruitable. Playing in the correct age group does not. |
How many parents you know will want their kid grouped into a situation that more likely wont get recruited for playing in college. All because the club values short term wins over long term development? |
Your kid's development is your responsibility Why would you sit them at a club doing nothing for them? |
|
If your kid is a D1 potential quality player, none of this matters
