For Catholics it was required until Vatican 2 on the 1960s. My mom and grandmother hated hats and were thrilled for it to go away. Some weird Catholics still cover their hair in church as a religious thing not a fashion thing. Would not be surprised if scalia’s wife, for instance, covers her hair in church. It’s often the same group that want to bring Latin back and won’t allow girls to be alter servers or have laity give communion. |
I can see a hat like that with a navy sundress for that British thing where they watch polo games out in the sun all day. I think it looks super weird in this context. |
Was this intentional?

We’re not here to discuss minor children. |
The pants give it an even more Star Wars vibe but I am totally here for it. Love it and actually appreciate that her parents didn’t pressure her into something more traditional. |
Yes! That is what it was reminding me of! Particularly funny given her husbands love of McD! Perhaps he subconsciously approved it because it reminded him of happy things. With his Ronald McD hair, they make a pair. |
+1 They were probably thinking about keeping her warm, too. |
So it looks like the women all wore their coats for the indoor swearing in? Did they really not have nice dresses on underneath that they could wear? All the men are in suits and the women in wool coats. |
I imagine a lot of time and money was spent on those coat dresses and the outfits underneath not so much, since they were not planning on being indoors. |
I like Hilary’s navy suit. She looks good. Laura Bush has done better IMHO. |
What is her statement guys? Is this a cry for help? |
Was Laura Bush wearing bracelet sleeves and an Apple watch? Or a FitBit maybe? I found that charming. |
I think the rule of not discussing minor children, even if it’s positive, is a very good rule. |
