Ritz in Chevy Chase

Any thoughts on the Residences at the Ritz opening in Chevy Chase?

We haven't been able to find a condo in DC that we like. Is the location awful?

I grew up in a house a few blocks from there. My parents still live in it. The location is fine, although it’s not walkable to much except the Starbucks across the street. They’re going to put in a grocery store and some restaurants/retail into the complex, so some things will be immediately accessible. It’s about a 10 minute drive to downtown Bethesda in traffic and about 12 minutes (depending on traffic on Connecticut Ave) to the DC line.

I loved/love the neighborhood, though I expect traffic on Manor will get bad once the complex is open and there are people driving in and out all the time, since it’s only one lane in each direction. The light at Connecticut and Manor also has a long cycle and I’m sure it’ll get backed up all the time (so it will be annoying if you need to make that left towards DC). NCC ES is also across the street, which might add another source of traffic on weekdays.

I wouldn’t move there without a car and it’s definitely suburban, not urban living like you would get in DC. But it’s a nice place to live overall.

I guess once the purple line is finished it should also be very easy to take it to Bethesda or Silver Spring. Both would also be an easy bike ride away. But not really walkable.

I guess it really depends if they get some good restaurants and retail when it is all done.

I know it’s a small detail but this copy is so ridiculous. It honestly makes the whole thing sound terrible. Who writes this garbage?
“To live at The Ritz-Carlton Residences, Chevy Chase is to embrace the beauty of living gracefully. To dwell in effortless elegance. To thrive in a swell of thoughtful amenities, vibrant community, and legendary service—and in it to find a weightlessness. An endless tranquility that’s yours to own.”

It seems destined to be a very fancy retirement home.

We live around the corner in North Chevy Chase. We like the area, quick commute to DC and easy access to Bethesda and Silver Spring. Even with Purple Line construction there's great biking/walking trails around. Plus the Audubon preserve and the neighborhood pool.

The Ritz construction took out our beloved neighborhood supermarket so we're all waiting to see what opens in the Chevy Chase Lake complex - have heard it will include an Amazon Fresh, a couple of restaurants, a liquor store, coffee shop, clothing stores, a pharmacy and bank.

Note that there will be more construction - I think they're going to redevelop the other side of Conn Ave, where the Starbucks is now.

+1 We are also in North Chevy Chase and have been looking forward to this forever. My teenager and I were just talking about how there used to be way more things to talk to and will be again but this is an annoying time.

+1. I think that might be their target market.

It seems like they are marketing all the services and amenities, perhaps to offset the location (near the Beltway).

BTW, the construction seems behind schedule. I drive past it regularly and it seems like there is still a ways to go.

I think a lot of the lane closures were due to the Purple Line construction (which is famously behind schedule) and not the new development.

Saying it’s not walkable or that you will need a car is a bit misleading. It’s literally going to be on top of a brand new grocery store and several new restaurants. It’s a less than 5 minute train ride from Bethesda when the Purple Line opens. And it is a few steps from a bike path that you will be able to use to bike to Bethesda or Georgetown.

Granted, you’ll have to wait until 2026 until the Purple Line opens to take advantage of all of this.

I wouldn’t describe it as near the beltway. Or at least, there are a hell of a lot of places closer. This is south of jones bridge rd, so maybe 3/4 of a mile from the beltway.

Have you looked at Aramis at the Wharf. It won't be done until November, but it's going to be nicer than a Ritz.
