Every few years there seems to be an out-of-state school that has all of the buzz and soon you know a ton of kids in your neighborhood/school that are going there. It's like all the kids talk and they all want to go there.
What is it this year? |
|
Our HS saw an unusually large group going to U Mich Ann Arbor. More than ever in the past. And, the kids in our neighborhood all have Michigan sweatshirts.
Its a great school, but statistically crazy how many in my immediate area half-way across the country are going there. |
| And I don't mean 'fad' as in they aren't good schools, it's just that they become all the buzz for a few years. |
| Yeah, but no. That's not a thing. |
|
Our private college counselor (been in the business over 25 years) says it is definitely at thing.
They see trends. I see it among peers and colleagues' kids. It makes sense, somebody raves about it-- a sibling, friend, etc. they visit...it creates a buzz. |
So name one. |
I did. U Mich AA. |
| Pitt. UVM, Santa Clara, and UMass Amherst up and coming. |
Never heard of that school, ever. |
Pfffft. Amherst has been popular on and off since the early 80s. |
Applications nearly doubled from our high school this year. To be clear, this is UMass Amherst, not Amherst. |
| Tulane and Northeastern come to mind. |
| Purdue |
| Definitely Northeastern right now. |
| UMiami |
