Rape has been a weapon of war in this conflict from the start, and the triumphalist cries of, "See! See! Palestinians are monsters!" ignores the fact that both Palestinian terrorists and Israelis are doing terrible things and have been doing so for some time. Zionist terrorists raped and massacred Palestinians throughout the Nakba, and the UN has spoken out about sexual violence by the IDF against women and girls in IDF custody in the past few weeks. Anyone who weaponizes sexual violence is a shameless bully. In terms of"good guys," there are plenty of innocents who are dying horribly, the vast majority of them Palestinian

The NYT story was shoddy journalism. However, it is extremely likely that some rapes occurred on 10/7 and that women and girls in IDF custody today are being raped and subjected to sexual violence. The UN has spoken out about both, and the perpetrators need to be held accountable. |
Please stop trying to justify Israel's genocide in Gaza with your faux cries of antisemitism. The hypocrisy and dishonesty are nauseating. |
This is what is bothering me. This isn’t a situation where one side is innocent and the other is evil. There is history and nuance and just a too many victims on both sides. There is no resolution without this realization and people being willing to understand the other’s experience. Unfortunately, Biden (and likely Trump) view that the U.S. should stand with Israel in all situations is too simplistic to get to a lasting peace in the region. Meanwhile, every mother, father, sibling Israel kills in Gaza is leaving behind a Palestinian that will hate them. |
DP. 100% agree with the bolded. Disagree with the rest. 1. There's literally nothing the US can do to facilitate "lasting peace in the region". The two sides here have irreconcilable differences, and both prefer conflict over compromise. 2. Many/most Palestinians hated Israel before this round of conflict. The increase in hatred is marginal. |
Then the only thing left to do is to sell everything and divide the family assets in half. Nobody keeps the house. |
The interviews of the Gazan children I’ve seen give me hope. This 15 year old boy is being called Newton because he created electricity in Gaza in his tent in Rafah. These kids are so strong and smart to be able to handle all of this. Hopefully, he stays innocent and doesn’t become a Hamas engineer or isn’t killed by or arrested by Israel for creating electricity . https://youtu.be/9j0ITpXaND4?si=eL2AEyhcEqwLii-O |
Like all divorces, devil is in the details. Palestinians won't take responsibility for f***ing up by rejecting the original partition, and even the most "moderate" want the '47 or '67 borders. Israel won't give back what it has taken through military conquest and settlement. |
That’s not true. The majority of Gazans wanted to go to work in Israel but Hamas wouldn’t allow many to do so or apply. Gazans hated Hamas more than Israel prior to 10/7. They had an anti Hamas demonstration in July 2023 and many people say others also happened recently but are being covered up by Hamas ministry of information. There are even anti Hamas protests happening now during the war . The majority of Gazans are cursing both Hamas and Israel for this war. Hamas is more popular in the West Bank than Gaza. That’s probably where they will go next as Mahmoud Abbas is weak and the Israelis did nothing to strengthen the Palestinian Authority. They only undermined their ally by allowing more settlers and settlements to take over the Palestinian Authority’s land in the West Bank. |

Hamas will likely leave Gaza and no longer be welcomed there as they were already unpopular before 10/7 but they will likely attempt to return in the West Bank. The IDF hasn’t weakened them at all

How do you feel about Palestinian women and girls being subjected to sexual violence in IDF custody? The UN has issued a statement about that, too, claiming the IDF has subjected Palestinian women and girls to executions, physical and sexual violence, rape, and inhumane conditions. Additionally, the UN claims several women and girls have been disappeared. https://www.cnn.com/2024/02/20/middleeast/israel-hamas-un-investigation-sexual-abuse-intl/index.html I don't see any difference between Hamas and Israel, and it's sad that between them, they are killing thousands of innocent civilians. |
I don't really care what either of them want. If it's irreconcilable then nobody gets the land. |
Kinda unrealistic. Israel has the land and has nuclear weapons. In reality, if it's irreconcilable, then Israel will simply keep the land. No one can/will forcibly remove them. |
And that's one of the major problems. The Israeli government doesn't want peace because it thinks it benefits more from the status quo. That is why the US etc should just unilaterally recognize Palestine. It'll still be under occupation but there will be incentives for peace on both sides. |

Or here's an even better idea. Why don't we just send all our illegal central and south american immigrants over there? A lot of them are conversos so they're eligible for aliyah and we can help them with the paperwork.
So many problems would be solved just like that. |
